Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Absolutely! At Graffitifun, safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our professional artists supervise the entire session, ensuring spray cans are used correctly and responsibly. We only work in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially designated legal graffiti zones in Dortmund, making it a perfectly safe and controlled environment for secondary school groups to explore their creativity.

How long does a typical workshop last?

A standard workshop for secondary schools usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a solid introduction to the history of street art, a safety briefing, some practice sketches, and the final creation of the mural. If you have a specific school schedule to stick to, we can easily adjust the duration to fit into a double lesson or a full project day.

Do the students need to have any previous drawing experience?

No prior art skills are needed at all! Our workshops are designed for everyone, from the next Picasso to those who haven’t picked up a pencil in years. Our expert artists guide the students through simple techniques that yield impressive results quickly. It’s more about expression, teamwork, and having fun with the medium than it is about being a perfect illustrator from day one.

Where in Dortmund do the workshops take place?

We are totally flexible! We can host the workshop at a legal graffiti wall in Dortmund, or we can bring the experience directly to your school grounds. If we work at the school, we use large mobile plastic walls or individual canvases to ensure your school property stays clean. We handle all the setup and cleanup, so your playground remains exactly as we found it—just maybe with some extra art on boards!

What materials do we need to provide?

Everything is included in our package. We provide professional-grade spray paint in a huge variety of colours, caps for different line widths, protective gear (suits, masks, gloves), and the surfaces to paint on. We even bring sketching materials like paper and markers for the design phase. Your school just needs to provide the eager students and a space to work; we take care of the rest!

What happens if we need to cancel or the weather is bad?

We understand that school budgets and plans can change. That’s why we offer a 'pay after the workshop' policy and have backup artists ready to go. If the weather is truly terrible and we can't find cover, we can look at rescheduling. Because we have a large team of professionals, we almost never cancel, ensuring your school trip or project day goes ahead as planned without any stress.

How far in advance should we book for a school group?

Our workshops are very popular for secondary schools, especially during the end-of-term periods. We recommend booking at least 4 to 8 weeks in advance to secure your preferred date, particularly for large year groups. However, if you have a last-minute request, give us a shout! With our large team of artists in the Dortmund area, we can often accommodate groups even on short notice.

Lépésről lépésre

Introduction & History: We start with a bang! Our artists share the cool history of graffiti and how it evolved from New York subways to Dortmund's urban galleries.
Safety & Gear: Students get kitted out in protective suits, masks, and gloves. Safety first, style second!
The Masterclass: A pro artist demonstrates 'can control'—how to hold the spray, change caps, and create different effects like fades and drips.
Sketching Designs: Students grab markers and paper to brainstorm their ideas, focusing on tags, throw-ups, or a collective mural theme.
Outline & Fill: This is where the magic happens. Students move to the wall and start bringing their sketches to life with bold outlines and vibrant colours.
Highlights & Details: We teach the tricks of the trade—adding 3D effects, 'shines', and sharp outlines to make the artwork pop.
Final Touches: Our artists help students refine their work, ensuring everyone walks away feeling like a pro.
The Big Reveal: A group photo session in front of the finished masterpiece to celebrate the team's hard work!

Helyi kultúra

Dortmund is a city that breathes character, from its industrial roots to its modern status as a cultural powerhouse. The street art scene here is legendary, with the Unionviertel acting as a living gallery for world-class murals. We channel that local "Pott" energy into every session we lead. We often draw inspiration from the city's icons—think the U-Tower or the legendary yellow-and-black spirit—while teaching students about the legal "Hall of Fame" spots where the local scene thrives.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Dortmund is home to some of the largest street art murals in the Ruhr area? The city actually encourages urban art through various festivals, making it the perfect backdrop for students to learn the difference between vandalism and vibrant public art! 🏆
