Do the participants need any artistic experience?

Absolutely! No prior artistic experience is needed to join our youth projects in Funchal. Our professional artists are expert mentors who break down complex techniques into simple, manageable steps. We focus on 'learning by doing,' ensuring every participant feels confident holding a spray can. By the end of the session, even those who thought they couldn't draw a stick figure will be amazed at the vibrant street art they've created.

Is the workshop safe for young people?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and disposable overalls to keep everyone safe and clean. Our instructors give a comprehensive safety briefing before any paint is sprayed, teaching proper nozzle control and distance. We use low-pressure spray cans which are much easier for younger creators to handle safely, ensuring a fun and secure environment for everyone involved in the workshop.

What is the ideal group size for a youth project?

For our youth projects in Funchal, we recommend groups of at least 10 people to get the best atmosphere and pricing, but we can accommodate much larger groups too! We often work with youth centres or holiday camps that have 30 to 50 participants. For very large groups, we bring in additional professional artists to ensure every young person gets individual attention and guidance throughout their creative journey.

Can you hold the workshop at our own location?

We are incredibly flexible! We can host the workshop at one of our approved street art locations in Funchal, or we can bring the entire setup to your youth club, school grounds, or community centre. If we come to you, we use mobile graffiti walls or large canvases and take full responsibility for floor protection. We just need an outdoor space or a very well-ventilated indoor area to get the party started.

What should the participants wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and old trainers that you don't mind getting a little splash of paint on. While we provide full protective gear including overalls and gloves, graffiti can sometimes be a bit messy when the creativity starts flowing! Since Funchal can be sunny, bringing a hat and some water is also a great idea for our outdoor sessions. We’ll handle all the professional art supplies!

How long does a typical session last?

Our standard youth workshops usually last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a proper introduction, technique practice, and the creation of a final masterpiece. If you're looking for a more intensive project, such as painting a large permanent mural for a community centre, we can arrange multi-day programmes. We always tailor the timing to fit your specific schedule and the energy levels of the group.

Do we need to pay in advance?

The best part is that you don't pay anything upfront! We believe in the quality of our workshops, so you only pay after the event has taken place. This makes the booking process stress-free for youth leaders and organisers. Once you're happy with the plan and the workshop is booked, you can focus entirely on the creative fun. Can control: Practice basic movements, learning how distance and speed change the look of your paint.
First outlines: Take to the wall or canvas to put down the skeleton of your graffiti piece.
Fill-in work: This is the fun part! Add bold colours and gradients to bring your creation to life.

Lokal kultur

Funchal is famously known as an "Open Air Museum," especially with the incredible Arte de Portas Abertas project in the Rua de Santa Maria. Our workshops draw inspiration from this local culture, encouraging young Madeirans to contribute to the island's artistic legacy. We love the contrast between the lush green mountains and the bright, bold pops of street art found in the city centre. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that many of the painted doors in Funchal's Old Town were created to revitalise the area? It’s a perfect example of how art can transform a community—something we aim to teach in every single youth workshop we host!
