Do I need prior graffiti experience to join this training?

Absolutely no prior graffiti experience is needed to join our training in Lisbon! We designed this course specifically for art teachers and educators who might be experts in traditional media like oil or charcoal but haven't touched a spray can before. Our professional artists will guide you through the basics of can control and safety before moving on to advanced classroom techniques. You'll leave feeling confident and ready to inspire your students.

How do you handle safety during the teacher training?

We take safety very seriously. During the session, we provide high-quality FFP3 masks to protect against fumes, as well as gloves and protective overalls to keep your clothes clean. We also teach you how to set up a safe 'spray zone' in a school environment, including proper ventilation tips and how to manage a group of students safely while they use aerosol paints.

Will I receive a certificate after completing the workshop?

Yes, every participant receives a Graffitifun Certificate of Completion. This document recognises your professional development in urban arts and can be used for your portfolio or to prove your competency to school boards and departments. It’s a great way to show that you are staying current with contemporary art education trends and are committed to diversifying your teaching methods.

Can the training be held at my own school in Lisbon?

We usually host our Lisbon sessions at dedicated street art walls or in well-ventilated creative studios. However, if your school or institution has a suitable outdoor space and enough participants, we can bring the training directly to you! This allows us to assess your specific environment and give tailored advice on how to run a graffiti program on your own premises.

How long does the teacher training session last?

Our standard teacher training sessions typically last between 2.5 to 4 hours. This timeframe is carefully balanced to ensure you get plenty of hands-on practice while also covering the theoretical and pedagogical aspects of teaching street art. If you have a larger group or want a more intensive deep-dive into muralism, we can easily extend the session to a full-day masterclass.

What specific skills will I learn during the session?

The workshop covers a lot of ground! You’ll learn about the history of street art, aerosol safety and ethics, basic techniques like 'fading' and 'outlining', and how to structure a graffiti lesson for different age groups. We also touch on budget-friendly material sourcing and how to pitch a street art project to your school’s leadership team to ensure you get the green light.

What are the benefits of graffiti for my students?

Bringing street art into the classroom is a fantastic way to engage 'disengaged' students. It’s a physical, high-energy medium that resonates with modern youth culture. It teaches students about scale, teamwork, and public space, while encouraging those who might find traditional fine art intimidating. Plus, it’s a brilliant way to brighten up dull school walls and build a sense of community pride!

Lokalna kultura

Lisbon is globally recognised as one of the world's street art capitals. From the towering murals in Marvila to the hidden gems in the narrow alleys of Bairro Alto and Graça, the city itself is a living gallery. In Lisbon, urban art isn't just decoration; it's a vital part of the city's cultural identity, supported by organisations like GAU (Galeria de Arte Urbana). 🇵🇹

Fun Fact: Did you know that Lisbon has a dedicated 'Urban Art Gallery' department within the city council? This means the city officially recognises the value of graffiti in urban regeneration! This local context makes Lisbon the ultimate classroom for any teacher wanting to master the art of the spray can.
