The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your summer programme? Because it’s more than just painting—it’s about building identity and teamwork in the most colourful way possible. Here’s why our Makassar sessions are a hit:

  • Boosts confidence: Seeing a small sketch turn into a massive 2-metre mural gives kids a huge sense of achievement. 🏆
  • Professional mentors: Our artists aren't just talented; they are amazing at inspiring the younger generation.
  • Total safety: We use professional-grade safety gear and eco-friendly practices to keep everyone protected.
  • Zero stress: No upfront payment is required, and we have backup artists ready to go, so your event is never cancelled. ✨
  • Unplugged fun: It’s the perfect way to get teenagers off their screens and working with their hands in the real world.

Step by step

  1. Safety briefing: We start by getting everyone suited up in protective gear and explaining how to use the equipment safely.
  2. Artistic history: A quick, engaging talk about how graffiti evolved from simple tags into the massive murals seen around Indonesia.
  3. Sketching the vision: Participants grab paper and pens to brainstorm their designs, focusing on 'bubble letters' and character work.
  4. Nozzle knowledge: Learning the 'can-control'—how different caps (nozzles) create thin lines, fat fills, or soft fades.
  5. The first spray: Moving to the practice wall to get a feel for the pressure and distance needed for a clean stroke.
  6. Outline and fill: Time to bring the sketches to life! Kids start with the basic outlines before filling their pieces with vibrant colours.
  7. Adding the 'Pop': Learning professional techniques like highlighting, 3D shadows, and 'second outlines' to make the art stand out.
  8. The final reveal: A group walkthrough where everyone talks about their work, followed by an epic photoshoot with the finished mural.

Local culture

Street art in Makassar

Makassar is a city that breathes culture, from the historic Fort Rotterdam to the bustling energy of Losari Beach. Recently, the local street art scene has exploded, with vibrant murals popping up in hidden corners of the city, blending traditional Celebes motifs with modern urban styles. Our summer camp taps into this local creative energy, often drawing inspiration from the iconic Phinisi ships or the legend of the deep sea. 🌊

Fun Fact: Did you know that some of the world's oldest figurative cave art was discovered just outside Makassar in the Maros-Pangkep karst? Creative expression has been part of this region's DNA for over 40,000 years! 🦴🎨
