Step by step

  1. Introduction & inspiration: Meet your pro-artist and take a quick look at Ipoh’s famous murals for inspiration before we dive in.
  2. Safety & gear up: Step into your overalls, snap on your gloves, and fit your mask. We show you how to handle the gear like a pro.
  3. The anatomy of a can: Learn how various 'caps' (nozzles) create different line widths, from skinny outlines to fat fills.
  4. Mastering the lines: Practice your first lines, dots, and fades on a practice wall to get a feel for the pressure and distance.
  5. Sketching the concept: Work with your group to sketch out a large-scale design, incorporating local Ipoh themes or your own unique style.
  6. The fill-in: Start bringing the piece to life by layering colours and creating smooth transitions within your letters or characters.
  7. Adding the 'pop': Learn professional tricks like 'highlights', 'lowlights', and 3D effects to make your art jump off the wall.
  8. The final outline: Use a steady hand to add the crisp final borders that pull the whole collaborative masterpiece together.
  9. Photo op & signatures: Sign your work with your new 'tag' and grab some epic photos with the finished public art piece!

Local culture

Street art in Ipoh

Ipoh has transformed from a sleepy tin-mining town into a global street art destination. Ever since the arrival of iconic murals in the Old Town, the city has embraced 'Wall Art' as part of its cultural identity. When you join our workshop, you aren't just spraying paint; you're joining a movement that celebrates Ipoh’s unique blend of colonial history and modern creativity. From the narrow concubine lanes to the wide-open public spaces near the Kinta River, the spirit of expression is everywhere.

Fun Fact: Ipoh's street art fame exploded in 2014 when seven murals were painted to celebrate the town's heritage, including the famous 'Old Uncle with Coffee Cup'. Our workshops aim to keep that creative legacy alive! ☕✨

Beyond Ipoh, we are proud to foster creative communities across Malaysia, including in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kuching.
