How it works
- Introduction & culture: We start with a brief, engaging history of graffiti, explaining the difference between street art and vandalism.
- Safety briefing: Students are fitted with protective gear and taught how to handle spray cans responsibly and safely.
- The 'tag' creation: Everyone starts by sketching their own unique 'tag' or nickname, learning about letter flow and personal style. 🎨
- Nozzle control: Our artists demonstrate different 'caps' (nozzles) and teach students how to control pressure to create thin lines or thick fills.
- Technique practice: Students move to the practice wall to try out 'fading', 'outlining', and 'shading' techniques under our guidance.
- Collaborative mural: The class works together on a large-scale project, often based on a school theme or a shared creative vision. ✨
- Personal canvases: Each student gets the chance to create their own individual piece of art to take home or display in the classroom.
- Final reveal & photos: We step back to admire the work! It's the perfect moment for group photos and a final Q&A with the artists. 📸
- Clean up: We handle the tidy-up, leaving the site as clean as we found it, but with much more colourful memories!

Is the spray paint safe for students to use?
Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls for every student. Our professional artists are trained to supervise groups and ensure the spray paint is used correctly. We typically host our workshops in well-ventilated outdoor spaces or dedicated art zones to ensure a safe, fun, and healthy environment for everyone involved. We've got the safety side covered so you can focus on the art!
How long does a typical workshop last?
A standard school workshop in Florence usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a brief history of street art, a demonstration of techniques, and plenty of hands-on painting time for the students. We can also offer 'taster' sessions of 90 minutes or full-day immersive art intensives if you're looking for something more comprehensive. We are flexible and can work around your school timetable!
Do the students need any previous art experience?
No artistic talent? No problem! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from the 'I can't draw a stick figure' student to the next Leonardo da Vinci. Our artists guide the group through simple, step-by-step techniques that yield impressive results quickly. The goal is to build confidence and have fun with colour and shapes. Most students are genuinely surprised by how much they can achieve in just one session!
What is the maximum group size for a school session?
We can accommodate groups of almost any size! For school classes, we usually recommend groups of 15 to 30 students per artist to ensure everyone gets enough individual attention. For larger year groups or entire schools, we bring in our 'backup' roster of artists so we can run multiple stations simultaneously. Whether it's a small art club or a massive school festival, we have the capacity to handle it.
Where do the workshops take place in Florence?
We are very flexible! We can host the workshop at one of our legal street art partner locations in Florence, which offers an authentic urban experience. Alternatively, if your school has a suitable outdoor space (like a car park or playground) or a very well-ventilated hall, we can bring the entire workshop to you. We'll handle all the floor and wall protection to ensure your school grounds stay tidy.
What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?
Weather in Tuscany is usually beautiful, but we always have a plan B! If the forecast looks rainy, we can move the session to a covered outdoor area or an indoor space with proper ventilation. If neither is available, we can reschedule the event for a sunny day. Because we have multiple artists available, we are usually very flexible with moving dates to ensure the students get the best possible experience.
Is there a minimum age for the participants?
We usually recommend our workshops for students aged 10 and up (Key Stage 2 and above). This is mainly due to the size of the spray cans and the coordination required to use them. However, for younger children, we can adapt the workshop using street art markers, stencils, or water-based paints. Just let us know the age group you're working with, and we’ll tailor the curriculum and tools to suit their development level!
