Do I need to be an artist to join the workshop? house?

Absolutely! Our Thika street art festival workshops are designed for everyone, from complete beginners to seasoned doodlers. Our pro artists will guide you through every step, starting with basic can control and moving up to creating your own masterpiece. Many of our participants have never touched a spray can before they arrive, and they walk away with incredible work they're proud of!

What should I wear to the festival workshop?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little paint on. While we provide high-quality protective gear like overalls, gloves, and shoe covers, sometimes a little 'creative splash' can happen. Thika can get quite warm during festival season, so breathable fabrics are a great choice for your day out in the sun!

Is spraying graffiti paint safe?

Safety is our number one priority at Graffitifun. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and disposable overalls for every participant. Our workshops take place in well-ventilated outdoor areas of the festival grounds, and our experienced artists provide a comprehensive safety briefing before anyone picks up a spray can. You're in safe hands!

How long does the graffiti experience last?

Standard workshop sessions at the Thika street art festival typically last between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a solid introduction, sketching skills, practice runs, and the final creation of your mural or canvas. We move at a fun, energetic pace to keep the festival vibes high throughout the session.

Is this activity suitable for children?

We love bringing street art to the next generation! Our festival workshops are generally suitable for children aged 6 and up. For the younger kids, we use water-based spray paints and smaller cans that are easier to handle. It’s a fantastic way for families in Kiambu County to bond and get creative together in a safe environment.

How much does it cost to participate? house?

Pricing at festivals depends on several factors, including the size of your group, the duration of the session, and whether you want a shared mural or individual canvases. Because we want to give you the best deal possible, we offer instant quotes through our cost calculator. Plus, you don't have to pay anything until after the fun is done!

Can I book a private artist for a mural?

Yes! While our main focus in Thika is the festival experience, we also offer 3D street art services, brand activations, and private bookings for schools and corporate events. If you have a specific wall or project in mind anywhere in the Thika or Nairobi area, just let us know and our artists can make it happen.

Step by step

Check-in and gear up: Meet us at our vibrant festival stand. We’ll get you suited up in professional protective overalls and gloves so you stay clean while getting creative. ✨
Artist introduction: Meet your pro graffiti mentor! They’ll share some insider secrets about the Thika street art scene and explain how we’ll spend the next few hours.
Master the tools: Learn the 'anatomy' of a spray can. We’ll teach you about different 'caps' (nozzles) and how to control pressure for thin lines or fat fills. 🔥
Sketching your vision: Brainstorm your design on paper first. Whether it's a tag, a character, or a message, our artists will help you refine your concept.
The practice run: Head to the practice wall to get a feel for the spray. You'll learn how to move your arm and body to get those smooth, professional-looking curves.
Creating the masterpiece: It’s go time! Apply your design to the main festival canvas or wall. Our pros are right there to help with shading, highlights, and outlines. 🎤
Final touches: Add those sharp 'cutting' lines and highlights that make graffiti pop. This is where your work really comes to life under the Kenyan sun! ☀️
Photo op & wrap up: Strike a pose with your finished piece! It’s the perfect memory of your creative adventure at the Thika street art festival.

Local culture

Thika isn't just about the famous Chania Falls or its industrial roots; it's a town with a growing heartbeat of youth culture and creative expression. While many know it for its pineapple plantations and bustling markets, the local art scene is beginning to explode. By hosting our street art festival in Thika, we’re tapping into that local 'Thika-Town' pride, blending modern graffiti techniques with the vibrant spirit of the region. Our artists often draw inspiration from the lush landscapes of Kiambu and the energetic hustle of the local matatu culture.

Fun Fact: Thika’s name is thought to come from the Kikuyu word 'Guthika,' meaning 'to bury,' but we’re doing the exact opposite—we’re bringing art out of the shadows and onto the walls for everyone to see! 🍍

Pricing

We believe every creative project is unique, just like your art! Our street art festival workshop prices are tailored to your group size and specific setup. Whether you want a small intimate session or a massive collaborative mural for a hundred people, we’ve got you covered.
