Do I need prior graffiti experience to join the teacher training?

Absolutely! Our art teacher training in Johor Bahru is designed for all skill levels. We start with the absolute basics of spray can control, safety, and letter structure before moving into advanced mural techniques. You don't need to be a 'street artist' to join; you just need to be an educator with a passion for learning new ways to engage your students through contemporary visual arts.

How long does a professional development session usually last?

Our PD sessions typically last between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the depth of the curriculum you choose. We cover everything from the history of urban art to practical hands-on application. For schools looking for a more intensive experience, we can also arrange full-day workshops that include lesson planning sessions and collaborative mural creation for your staff.

What materials are included in the training package?

We provide every single thing you need! This includes premium low-pressure spray cans (which are easier for beginners to control), high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, protective overalls, and various surfaces to practice on. Every participant also receives a digital toolkit with lesson plan templates and safety checklists to use in their own classrooms later.

Is spray painting safe to do in a school environment?

Safety is our top priority. We use low-solvent paints whenever possible and provide professional-grade PPE, including FFP3 masks and nitrile gloves. During the training, we specifically teach you how to manage a classroom full of students with spray cans, including proper ventilation protocols, distance management, and disposal of materials, ensuring you can replicate the lesson safely at your school.

Can you host the training session directly at our school in JB?

Yes, we can! We love coming to your campus to train your staff in their actual working environment. This allows us to assess your specific school walls or outdoor spaces and give tailored advice on where graffiti art would work best for your students. We bring all the mobile equipment needed to turn any ventilated outdoor area into a professional street art studio.

Do we receive a certificate after completing the professional development?

Yes, all educators who complete the Graffitifun Art Teacher Training will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate outlines the specific skills learned, such as spray-painting techniques, urban art history, and workshop safety management. It serves as great evidence for your professional development portfolio and shows your commitment to innovative, modern teaching methods.

Step by step

Introduction to Urban Culture: We start with a quick, energetic deep dive into the history of graffiti and how it evolved into the global street art movement we see in JB today.
Safety & Gear Mastery: Learn the essential 'dos and don'ts' of handling aerosol cans, including proper mask fitment and setting up a safe zone for your future students.
The Art of the Line: Pick up your first can! Our pro artists show you how to control line width, pressure, and distance to get those crisp, clean edges.
Lettering & Style: Master the basics of 'tagging', 'throw-ups', and 'pieces'. We'll show you how to teach your students the geometry behind graffiti letters.
Colour Blends & Effects: Discover the secrets of fades, highlights, and 3D shadows that make street art pop off the wall.
Stencil & Technique Integration: Learn how to mix freehand spraying with stencils to help even your less-confident students achieve amazing results quickly.
Curriculum Integration: We brainstorm together on how to link street art to your specific syllabus, whether it's through history, social justice, or pure technique.
The Collaborative Mural: Finish the day by working with your fellow teachers on a high-energy group mural—proving that teamwork makes the dream work!

Local culture

Johor Bahru has a unique creative pulse, often influenced by its proximity to Singapore while maintaining a distinctly Malaysian 'soul'. Places like the Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Street show how tradition and modern creativity can live side-by-side. Our training sessions tap into this local vibe, encouraging teachers to explore how 'Julu' (JB) culture can be reflected in urban art projects. Whether it's the 3D murals in the hidden alleys of the city centre or the massive brand activations in the newer districts, JB is a canvas waiting to be explored.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Johor Bahru was home to some of the earliest organised street art festivals in Southern Malaysia? The city’s walls have become a legitimate gallery for international artists, making it the perfect backdrop for your own professional growth! 🏆
