Do I need previous graffiti experience to join the training?

No prior experience with spray paint is necessary! Our Tanga-based training is designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident instructor. We focus on teaching you the foundational techniques, safety protocols, and pedagogical methods needed to manage a classroom. By the end of the session, you'll have the skills to guide your students through their own creative journeys with confidence.

What materials are provided during the teacher training?

Everything is included! We provide high-quality spray cans, a wide variety of caps (nozzles), protective gear like masks and gloves, and practice surfaces. We also provide digital resources and lesson plan templates that you can take back to your school or studio. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and wear some old clothes that you don't mind getting a little paint on!

Is the spray paint safe for use in a school environment?

We take health and safety very seriously, especially in an educational context. Our training covers the correct use of professional-grade respirators, skin protection, and site ventilation. We also teach you how to manage a group of students safely, ensuring they follow protocol while still having a blast. You will leave the workshop with a comprehensive safety checklist for your own future classes.

How long does the teacher training session last?

Standard professional development sessions in Tanga typically last between 3 to 5 hours. This allows enough time for the theoretical background, hands-on technical practice, and a collaborative mural project. If you have specific timing needs or want a multi-day intensive course, we can certainly customise the schedule to fit your school's calendar or your personal professional development goals.

Can this training help me integrate street art into other subjects?

Absolutely! Street art is a fantastic tool for exploring social issues, history, and even geometry or chemistry (pigment mixing!). During the training, we brainstorm ways to align graffiti projects with your specific curriculum. Whether you want to focus on muralism as a community-building exercise or use street art to discuss modern African history, we help you bridge the gap between spray cans and the classroom.

Do you offer on-site training at our school in Tanga?

Yes, we offer flexible training options. While we love hosting educators at our creative spaces near the Tanga port, we are more than happy to bring the entire setup to your school or community centre. Training on-site allows us to assess your specific space and provide tailored advice on where and how your students can safely practice graffiti art in the future.

Local culture

Tanga is a city with a unique aesthetic, blending colonial history with a relaxed coastal vibe. From the crumbling beauty of the Old Boma to the bustling activity at the Tanga Port, there is inspiration around every corner. While the city is known for its peaceful atmosphere and proximity to the stunning Magoroto Forest, the local youth culture is increasingly looking toward modern, urban forms of expression. ✨

In Tanga, street art isn't just about paint; it's about storytelling. Integrating these modern techniques into the local school system respects the city's heritage while giving students a contemporary voice. Fun Fact: Did you know Tanga was once the largest city in East Africa? This historical weight makes it the perfect place to start a new creative revolution in the classroom! 🎨
