Is spray painting safe for primary school children?

Safety is our number one priority! We use low-odour, water-based spray paints for our primary school workshops in Lae, which are much friendlier for kids. Every student is provided with protective gloves, masks, and aprons to keep them and their school uniforms clean. Our professional artists are experts at managing groups of children and ensuring the spray cans are used responsibly and safely throughout the entire creative process.

Do the students need any prior art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, especially beginners. Our artists start with the absolute basics, showing the kids how to hold the can and control the pressure. We use a 'step-by-step' method that ensures every child, regardless of their artistic ability, walks away with a piece of art they are genuinely proud of. It’s all about building confidence and having fun!

How much does a primary school graffiti workshop cost?

Pricing for our Lae primary school workshops depends on the number of students, the duration of the session, and whether we are painting on individual canvases or a large communal mural. Because every school's needs are different, we provide custom quotes to ensure you get the best value. The best part? There is no upfront payment required—you only pay after the workshop is successfully completed.

How long does a typical workshop last?

A typical session for primary schools lasts between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This allows enough time for an introduction to the history of street art, a safety briefing, some practice runs, and the creation of the final masterpiece. We can easily adapt the schedule to fit into your school’s existing timetable or break the day into several shorter sessions for different classes.

Where in the school do the workshops take place?

We are very flexible! We can set up outdoors on the school oval, under a large 'haus win' for shade, or even in a well-ventilated school hall. We use protective floor coverings to ensure the school grounds stay clean. If you'd prefer not to paint on school walls, we bring along high-quality canvases or mobile wooden panels so the art can be moved or displayed anywhere!

What are the educational benefits of a graffiti workshop?

Graffitifun workshops are highly educational! Beyond the physical art skills, students learn about colour theory, composition, and the importance of perseverance. We also focus heavily on the difference between illegal graffiti and 'Street Art' as a professional career path. It’s a fantastic way to engage kids who might struggle with traditional classroom subjects, giving them a unique sense of accomplishment and pride.

We also offer tailored sessions for Secondary Schools, Kids Parties, or even 3D Street Art for special school events! 🔥

Step by step

Introduction & History: We kick off with a high-energy intro, teaching the kids about the history of street art and how it evolved from simple tags to massive murals.
Safety First: Students are fitted with their protective gear. We explain the 'golden rules' of using spray cans safely and respectfully.
The Canvas Prep: Whether it's individual canvases or a school wall, we prepare the surface and explain the plan for the day's design.
Can Control Basics: Our pros demonstrate basic techniques—how to make dots, thin lines, and thick 'fat' lines by adjusting hand distance.
Sketching the Design: Kids start by 'sketching' their ideas with light paint, learning how to scale their drawings to a large format.
Fill-ins & Colour: The fun part! Students choose their palette and learn how to fill in their shapes smoothly without drips.
Outlining & Detail: We teach the secret of the 'pro look'—adding sharp outlines and highlights to make the artwork pop.
The Masterpiece Reveal: We finish by tidying up the edges and stepping back to admire the collective work of art created by the class.
Clean Up & Recap: We pack up everything, leaving the site spotless, followed by a quick photo op and certificates of participation!

Local culture

Lae, the 'Garden City' of Papua New Guinea, has a soul built on industry and incredible natural beauty. We love bringing our workshops here because the students in Morobe Province have such a vibrant, rhythmic sense of design! From the bustling markets to the coastal energy, there is so much inspiration to draw from. Our workshops often incorporate local motifs and the bright colours seen throughout the city's landscapes.

Fun Fact for Lae: Did you know that Lae was a major hub for aviation in the 1930s? It was actually the last place Amelia Earhart was seen before her flight disappeared! We love encouraging students to think about history and 'hidden stories' when they design their street art. ✈️

Whether your school is near the Botanical Gardens or out towards the industrial zones, we bring the vibe and the paint to your doorstep. If you are looking for other locations, we also operate in Port Moresby, Mount Hagen, Madang, and Wewak.

Pricing

We believe every school in Lae should have access to world-class art experiences. Because our sessions vary from small classroom workshops to massive whole-school murals, our pricing is flexible. Prices depend on group size and setup—request a quote today to get a tailored estimate for your school!
