The experience

Choosing a Graffitifun workshop in Dar es Salaam means choosing an experience that prioritises empowerment and joy. Here’s why our special needs program stands out:

  • Sensory Joy: The hiss of the can and the vibrant burst of colour provide wonderful sensory stimulation in a controlled way. ✨
  • Confidence Building: Seeing a large-scale piece of art that YOU helped create provides an immediate sense of accomplishment. 🏆
  • Focus on Ability: We adapt our tools and techniques to highlight what every participant *can* do, rather than focusing on limitations. 💪
  • Expert Guidance: Our artists aren't just painters; they are mentors who know how to keep the energy positive and the environment safe. 🎤
  • Zero Risk: With our 'pay after' policy and backup artists always ready, your event is in the safest hands in Tanzania. 🔥
  • Social Connection: Street art is a team sport! Our workshops encourage communication and shared smiles among the participants. 🎉

Step by step

  1. Introduction & Safety: We start with a warm welcome and a breakdown of the safety gear. Everyone gets kitted out in their protective suits and masks.
  2. Colour Selection: Participants get to choose their favourite colours from our huge range of spray cans. This is often the most exciting part!
  3. Can Control: We teach the basics of how to hold and press the spray can, making sure everyone feels comfortable with the pressure and distance.
  4. First Lines & Shapes: We start with simple lines, dots, and circles on the practice wall to build confidence and muscle memory.
  5. Creative Theme: We introduce a simple theme or a collaborative mural concept where everyone’s contribution fits together.
  6. Filling & Shading: We learn how to fill in large areas with colour and even try some basic 'fades' or colour blending.
  7. Adding Details: Using different nozzles (caps), we add some final 'flair' or outlines to make the artwork pop.
  8. Group Photos: We celebrate! We take photos of the participants with their masterpieces to capture the memories forever.
  9. Clean Up: We handle the tidy-up, leaving you with nothing but great vibes and amazing photos.

Local culture

Street art in Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam, the "Haven of Peace," is a city bursting with rhythm and colour, from the bustling markets of Kariakoo to the gentle waves at Coco Beach. While the city is famous for its Tingatinga paintings, there is a growing street art movement that reflects the modern energy of Bongo Flava culture. Our workshops tap into this urban spirit, providing a modern platform for expression that feels uniquely "Dar." We love bringing our sessions to different corners of the city, inspired by the mix of traditional heritage and contemporary street life.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the "Bongo" in Bongo Flava (Tanzania's signature music style) actually means "brains" or "smart"? It reflects the street-smart creativity of Dar es Salaam—the same clever spirit we encourage in our graffiti participants! 🎨

Pricing

Because every group has different requirements—from the number of participants to specific accessibility needs—we provide bespoke quotes. Prices depend on group size and setup, ensuring you get the best value for your specific event.

No stress: You don't need to pay anything until after the workshop! We are confident you'll love it.
