How long does the teacher training session last?

Our teacher training sessions in Tromso usually last between 1.5 and 3 hours. We can adjust the duration to fit your school's professional development schedule. The time is split between a brief theory session where we cover history and safety, and a much longer practical session where you get to master the spray cans and create your own large-scale street art piece. It's fast-paced, high energy, and very productive!

Do I need previous art experience to participate?

Absolutely not! This workshop is specifically designed for educators of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned art teacher or a primary school teacher with no creative background, our professional artists guide you through every step. We focus on teaching you the techniques so you can confidently demonstrate them to your students later. Most people are amazed at what they can achieve in just a few hours.

Is the workshop safe, and what gear do you provide?

Safety is our top priority at Graffitifun. We provide high-quality protective gear, including gloves, overalls, and specialized masks designed to filter out fumes. We use low-pressure spray cans that are easier to control and provide thorough instruction on safe handling. When you take these skills back to your classroom, you'll be fully equipped to manage a safe and clean environment for your students to explore graffiti.

Can you host the training at our school in Tromso?

We are highly flexible! We can host the training at a designated outdoor graffiti wall in Tromso, or we can come to your school if you have a suitable outdoor space or a well-ventilated indoor hall. We use protective floor coverings to ensure no unwanted paint marks are left behind. If the weather is particularly 'Arctic,' we always have a solid backup plan to keep the workshop running smoothly.

Are all the materials included in the price?

Yes, we provide all the necessary professional materials. This includes a wide range of premium spray paint colours, various nozzle types (caps) for different effects, protective clothing, and canvases or practice walls. You don't need to bring anything except your enthusiasm and a willingness to get a little messy! We also provide educational handouts that you can use as a reference for your future lesson planning.

What is the ideal group size for professional development?

We find that groups of 10 to 20 teachers work best for a collaborative atmosphere, but we can accommodate larger groups by bringing in additional artists. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we can scale our training to fit your entire faculty if needed. Smaller departments are also welcome; we tailor the level of individual attention based on your group's specific size and goals.

How does the payment process work?

We operate on a trust-based system to make things easy for schools. You don't need to pay anything upfront when you book your session. Payment is only required after the workshop is completed and you are 100% satisfied with the experience. This takes the stress out of the administrative side of things, allowing you to focus entirely on the professional development and creative fun in Tromso.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next professional development day? It’s more than just painting on walls—it’s about connection, modern culture, and overcoming the fear of the "blank canvas." Here’s why educators in Tromso love our training: 🎤

Instant Student Engagement: Learn the one art form that every teenager actually thinks is cool. 🔥
Boost Teacher Wellbeing: There is something incredibly cathartic about the hiss of a spray can—it's the ultimate stress-buster! 🏆
Practical Skills: You won't just learn "how" to paint; you'll learn "how to teach" it, including safety and surfaces. 💪
Expert Mentorship: Benefit from the experience of professional artists who have spent years perfecting their craft. 🎨
Flexible & Scalable: We adapt the techniques so they can be used for small classroom projects or giant school murals. 🚀

Step by step

Introduction and history: We kick things off with a brief, high-energy look at the evolution of street art from its roots to modern-day muralism.
Material mastery: Learn about different spray cans, pressures, and the importance of various 'caps' (nozzles) for creating lines, fades, and fills.
Sketching your concept: Our artists guide you through the process of scaling a small sketch into a large-format piece suitable for a classroom project.
Technique practice: Get hands-on with the cans! You'll practice basic strokes, dots, and outlines on a canvas or practice wall under expert supervision.
Creating your masterpiece: Apply your new skills to a collaborative or individual piece, focusing on layering, blending, and 'cutting' edges for a sharp look.
Classroom integration: A dedicated session on how to manage a graffiti project with students, covering safety, budget, and surface preparation.
Clean-up and disposal: Learn the professional way to store materials and dispose of cans responsibly, ensuring your art room stays tidy.
Certification and feedback: We wrap up with a group review of the work created and provide you with the resources to start your own school street art programme.

Local culture

Tromso might be famous for the Northern Lights, but the city's urban canvas is becoming just as colourful! Despite the Arctic conditions, street art in Tromso has a unique resilience. From the murals tucked away in the city centre to the creative energy found at Tvibit, the local youth culture hub, the city is a fantastic backdrop for a graffiti workshop. Teaching street art here means connecting with a local scene that thrives even in the polar night. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Tromso is home to some of the northernmost street art murals in the world? Many local artists incorporate Sami culture and Arctic wildlife into their designs, creating a style you won't find anywhere else! ❄️

We love bringing our workshops to this unique part of Norway, where the contrast between the rugged natural landscape and the sharp lines of graffiti creates something truly special. By training here, you're helping to grow a creative movement that's as bold as the Lyngen Alps. 🏔️
