Step by step

  1. Intro and safety: We kick things off with a quick chat about the history of graffiti and a vital safety briefing on how to use the equipment responsibly.
  2. The tag creator: Kids get to design their own 'tag' or artist alias, exploring different lettering styles and personal flair.
  3. Can control: Our artists demonstrate how to hold the can, control the pressure, and create different line widths and effects.
  4. Sketching the piece: Using chalk or light paint, students sketch out their main design on the canvas or wall space provided.
  5. Filling and fading: This is the fun part! Kids learn how to fill in their shapes and create cool colour gradients and textures.
  6. Outlining: We show them how to make their art "pop" by adding sharp outlines and 3D effects for that professional street art look.
  7. Final highlights: The finishing touches involve adding "shines" and small details that bring the whole masterpiece to life.
  8. The big reveal: Everyone steps back to admire the collective work or their individual canvases—perfect for a group photo! ✨

Local culture

Street art in Port Moresby

Port Moresby is a city known for its incredible traditional art forms, from intricate wood carvings to stunning woven textiles. Our graffiti workshops bridge the gap between these ancient traditions and modern urban expression. We love seeing how POM kids incorporate local cultural motifs into their spray-painted designs, creating a unique "Melanesian Street Style." It's a fantastic way to celebrate the city's evolving identity while providing a constructive outlet for local youth. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know that some of the most vibrant public murals in Port Moresby were created to celebrate PNG’s Independence Day? Street art is a powerful tool for storytelling in our beautiful capital! 🇵🇬
