Is the graffiti workshop safe for children?

Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our professional artists are trained to supervise groups and ensure the spray cans are used responsibly. We use low-odor paints whenever possible and conduct workshops in well-ventilated outdoor areas to ensure a healthy environment for all budding San Francisco artists.

Do students need to have prior drawing skills?

No previous art experience is needed at all! Our San Francisco after-school program is designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to creative pros. Our instructors break down the process into easy, manageable steps. We focus on the 'fun' in Graffitifun, ensuring every student feels proud of what they create, regardless of their prior drawing ability or artistic background.

What materials are included in the workshop?

We provide everything! Your booking includes all premium spray paint, various nozzle tips (caps), protective gear, and the professional-grade surfaces we'll be painting on. Students just need to show up wearing comfortable clothes that they don't mind getting a little dusty or paint-spattered—even with the protective suits, it's best to be prepared for a bit of creative mess!

How long does a typical session last?

Our standard after-school sessions in San Francisco typically last between 1.5 to 2 hours. This provides the perfect balance of learning the history of street art, practicing techniques, and completing a final masterpiece. We can also customize the duration to fit your specific school schedule or extra-curricular timeframe if needed. Just let us know your requirements!

What is the recommended age for participants?

We generally recommend our workshops for students aged 8 and up. At this age, children usually have the hand strength to operate the spray cans and the focus to follow the safety instructions. For younger groups, we can adapt the workshop using water-based paint markers or alternative creative methods to ensure everyone can participate safely and joyfully.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

Not at all! We've got you covered. While we love working outside in the California sun, we have flexible arrangements for indoor spaces with proper ventilation or covered outdoor areas. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we almost never cancel. If the San Francisco fog turns into rain, the creative show will still go on!

How do we handle the payment and booking?

Booking is easy and stress-free! You can start by using our online Cost Calculator or Workshop Quiz to find your perfect fit. Once you're ready, reach out for a custom quote. The best part? There is no upfront payment required. You can settle the payment after the workshop is completed and you're 100% satisfied with the experience.

Step by step

Intro & Street Art History: We kick things off with a high-energy intro to the world of graffiti, its roots, and how it evolved into the vibrant street art seen across SF today.
Safety First: Students suit up! We distribute masks, gloves, and overalls while explaining the "rules of the road" for using spray paint safely and respectfully.
The Master Class: Our pro artists demonstrate fundamental techniques, including how to control the spray, create clean lines, and use different "caps" for various effects.
Sketching Your Vision: Before hitting the wall, students brainstorm and sketch their ideas, learning how to structure "tags" and "pieces" on paper first.
First Sprays: Under close supervision, students start practicing their can control on practice surfaces, getting a feel for the pressure and distance.
The Big Creation: It's time! The students work on their main project, layering colors, adding shadows, and bringing their individual or collaborative vision to life.
Refining & Outlining: In this step, we teach how to add those sharp outlines and "highlights" that make a piece of graffiti truly pop off the surface.
The Grand Reveal & Photos: Once the paint is dry, we host a mini "gallery opening" where everyone shows off their work. It's the perfect time for group photos!
Cleanup & Wrap-up: We wrap up by tidying the area and reflecting on the new skills learned. Students leave with a massive sense of accomplishment.

Local culture

San Francisco has a legendary street art pulse, from the historic murals of the Mission District to the ever-changing "Free Walls" scattered throughout the city. Creative energy is built into the hills here, and our workshops celebrate that unique NorCal spirit. We don't just teach art; we connect students to the visual language of their own neighborhoods, inspiring them to contribute to the city's rich cultural tapestry in a positive way.

Fun Fact: Did you know San Francisco is home to Clarion Alley? It's a world-famous spot where social justice and art collide, featuring over 700 murals created since 1992! 🌉🔥
