Do the participants need any prior drawing experience?

No way! Our youth workshops are designed for everyone from total beginners to budding artists. Our professional street artists guide the group through every step, starting with basic lines and shapes before moving on to more complex techniques. We focus on the process and having fun, so there's absolutely no pressure to be a 'pro.' We guarantee everyone will leave with a piece they are proud of.

Is the workshop safe for teenagers?

Absolutely. Safety is our biggest priority at Graffitifun. We provide high-quality protective gear, including masks and gloves, for every participant. We also use professional-grade spray paint and conduct all sessions in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specialized indoor spaces. Our instructors are trained to manage groups safely while ensuring everyone follows the proper handling techniques for the equipment.

How long does a typical workshop last?

A standard youth graffiti project in San Francisco usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives the group enough time to learn the history of street art, practice their 'tagging' and 'piece' skills on practice walls, and then collaborate on a final masterpiece. If you have a specific schedule to stick to, we can easily customize the duration to fit your event perfectly.

What materials are included in the session?

We've got it all covered! We provide professional spray cans in a huge variety of colors, protective masks, gloves, and the surfaces to paint on (like large boards or canvases). We even bring protective floor covering if needed. The only thing participants need to bring is their creativity and clothes they don't mind getting a little paint on—just in case!

What happens if it rains on the day of the event?

San Francisco weather can be a bit unpredictable, but we’re prepared! If the fog rolls in or it starts to rain, we usually have a backup indoor location or we can reschedule the event at no extra cost. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we almost never have to cancel a session due to staff illness either. Your creative plans are safe with us!

Can we choose the location for the workshop?

We are very flexible! While we often host sessions at iconic street art spots around the city, we can also bring the workshop to you. If you have a community center, schoolyard, or private outdoor space with permission to paint, our mobile team will show up with all the gear. We love transforming local San Francisco spaces into temporary art galleries.

How is the pricing calculated for youth groups?

Pricing typically ranges from $35 to $75 per person. The final cost depends on the size of your group, the duration of the workshop, and the specific materials requested (like individual canvases versus a large communal mural). We don't require any upfront payment—you only pay after the workshop is complete and everyone is happy. Contact us for a personalized quote!

Step by step

Introduction & concept: We start with a high-energy intro about the history of SF street art and brainstorm a theme for the day.
Design & sketching: Participants grab paper and markers to sketch out their 'tags' or 'throw-ups' before hitting the wall.
Safety briefing: We suit everyone up in masks and gloves and explain the 'dos and don'ts' of spray can safety.
Can control basics: Our artists demonstrate 'cap' techniques, showing how to control pressure, distance, and line thickness.
Practice run: The youth get hands-on time on a practice surface to get used to the feel of the spray can.
The main event: It's time to create! Whether it's a individual canvas or a giant group mural, the real painting starts here.
Outlining & detailing: We teach the trick of 'cutting' and 'outlining' to make the artwork pop and look professional.
Final reveal & photos: We wrap up with a group photo in front of the masterpiece—perfect for social media!

Local culture

San Francisco has one of the most legendary street art scenes in the world. From the stunning murals of Balmy Alley to the ever-changing walls of Clarion Alley, the city uses paint to tell stories of culture, social justice, and community. Our youth workshops tap into this local heritage, encouraging participants to think about what their art says to their neighborhood. We love the gritty, beautiful aesthetic of the Bay, and we bring that same authentic energy to every session we host in the city by the Bay. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know San Francisco is home to the "Mission School" art movement? It started in the 90s and focused on street-level art inspired by graffiti and comic books!
