Do I need prior graffiti experience to join?

Absolutely not! Our teacher training in Dornbirn is designed for all skill levels. Whether you are a seasoned painter or someone who hasn't touched a spray can since childhood, our professional artists will guide you through the basics. The goal is to give you the pedagogical tools and confidence to lead your own classroom sessions, focusing on technique and safety rather than 'perfect' fine art skills. It is all about the process!

What safety measures are covered for school settings?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality FFP3 masks, gloves, and protective suits for all participants. During the training, we specifically cover how to set up a safe workspace in a school environment, including ventilation requirements, fire safety, and skin protection. You will leave the workshop with a clear safety checklist that you can implement in your own Dornbirn school projects to ensure a risk-free creative environment for your students.

How long does the teacher training session last?

Standard professional development sessions for teachers usually last between 2 and 3 hours. This timeframe allows us to cover the history of the movement, basic motor skills with the can, and the completion of a collaborative mural. However, we can offer extended masterclasses or multi-day intensives if your school department wants a deeper dive into urban art curriculum planning. We are flexible and can adapt to your professional development schedule.

Will we actually get to spray on a real wall?

Yes, we believe in 'learning by doing'. Every participant will have their own space to practice line work and filling techniques, followed by a group project on a large wall or professional canvases. By physically engaging with the medium, you’ll understand the challenges your students might face. Plus, you’ll get to create something vibrant and impressive that proves just how effective these teaching methods really are!

How does graffiti benefit the standard art curriculum?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for reaching 'hard-to-engage' students. It promotes fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and collaborative planning. In our training, we discuss how urban art can be integrated into history lessons (the evolution of mark-making), social studies (public space and law), and chemistry (pigment and pressure). It’s a versatile medium that bridges the gap between traditional fine art and contemporary youth culture, making your art room the coolest place in school.

Is the equipment provided, and how do we handle the mess?

Graffiti can be messy, but it doesn't have to be a headache. We provide all the necessary protective gear, including floor coverings and specialized cleaning advice. During the training in Dornbirn, we’ll show you how to manage a classroom of 'sprayers' without ruining the school's property. We also offer advice on using water-based low-odour cans which are much more suitable for educational environments than traditional high-pressure paints.

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Dornbirn, the vibrant heart of the Vorarlberg region, is a city that perfectly blends industrial heritage with modern architectural innovation. This unique backdrop makes it an inspiring place for street art education. While cities like Vienna or Graz have massive urban scenes, Dornbirn offers a unique, close-knit creative community that is hungry for modern expression. Whether we are hosting our training near the futuristic Karren cable car station or inspired by the sleek lines of the Kunstraum Dornbirn, the local vibe is always about pushing boundaries. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Dornbirn is known as the 'Garden City'? We love the irony of bringing 'urban' grit to such a lush, green environment—it creates a stunning visual contrast that really makes the colours pop! 🎨

By bringing graffiti training to your school in Dornbirn, you are tapping into the city's spirit of innovation and design. It's about showing the next generation that art isn't just for galleries—it's for the very streets they walk on every day. 🏔️
