Do I need to be an artist already to take this training?

Absolutely no prior street art experience is needed! Our Gondar teacher training is designed to take educators from 'zero to hero.' We start with basic spray can control and safety, then move into color theory and lettering. Our goal is to give you the confidence to guide your own students through the process, regardless of your personal artistic background. It is about the pedagogy as much as the paint!

What materials are included in the workshop?

Graffitifun provides everything you need for the professional development session. This includes high-quality spray paint, various nozzles (caps), protective masks, gloves, and protective suits to keep your clothes clean. We also provide the canvases or practice walls and educational handbooks. You just need to bring your enthusiasm, comfortable shoes, and a desire to learn new ways to inspire your students in the classroom.

How long does the teacher training session last?

The training typically lasts between 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the specific curriculum we choose together. We cover theory, safety, and hands-on practice. If you are looking for a more intensive multi-day certification, we can certainly arrange that! Most Gondar schools find that a half-day intensive session provides enough 'spark' to get their art departments energized and ready to start new graffiti-based projects.

Is the spray paint safe for use in a school environment?

Safety is our absolute #1 priority. We use low-odor paints wherever possible and provide professional-grade FFP2 or FFP3 respiratory masks for all participants. We also conduct our trainings in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specialized studios. We teach you how to set up a safe 'spray zone' in your own school environment in Gondar, ensuring that you can manage student safety effectively once you start teaching.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes! Upon successful completion of the Graffitifun Art Teacher Training, you will receive a certificate of participation. This certificate recognizes your professional development in urban art education and spray painting techniques. Many educators in Ethiopia use this to satisfy their annual professional growth requirements or to demonstrate their ability to lead extracurricular street art clubs and community mural projects.

Can the training be held at my specific school in Gondar?

We are very flexible! We can host the training at a vibrant outdoor location in Gondar to give you an authentic street art experience, or our instructors can come directly to your school or campus. If you have a specific wall you’d like to transform into a learning mural, we can even integrate that into the training. Just let us know your preference when booking the session.

Boost Student Engagement: Learn the medium that your students are already obsessed with! 🚀
Safe & Professional: We take all the "scary" out of spray painting with pro-grade safety gear and odor-control tips.
Hands-on Learning: This isn't a boring lecture. You’ll be painting within the first 20 minutes! 💪

Step by step

Intro to Urban Pedagogy: We start with a brief chat about why graffiti is such a powerful tool for modern youth engagement.
Safety & Gear Briefing: Learn about different mask types, ventilation, and how to set up a safe "creation station" for your students.
The Master's Grip: Our artists show you exactly how to hold the can, swap caps, and control pressure for different effects.
Lines, Fills, and Fades: Put paint to wall! You will practice the core technical skills that form the foundation of all spray art.
Color Theory in the Wild: We explore how to teach students about high-contrast color schemes that make murals "pop."
Lesson Planning: We sit down to discuss how to break these skills into 45-minute or 90-minute lessons for different age groups.
Collaborative Mural: You and your fellow teachers will work together on a final piece, practicing the "teamwork" aspect of street art.
Critique & Wrap-up: A final session on how to give constructive feedback to students exploring this non-traditional medium.

Local culture

Gondar isn't just about the "Camelot of Africa"—it's a city with a deep soul and a growing appreciation for contemporary expression. While we honor the legendary stone architecture of Fasil Ghebbi, we believe the walls of our educational centers can also tell modern stories. The street art scene in Ethiopia is booming, and Gondar’s youth are at the forefront of this creative wave.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Gondar’s traditional art style, seen in the Debre Berhan Selassie Church, is world-famous for its iconic "angel faces"? We love showing teachers how to blend these traditional Ethiopian motifs with modern graffiti spray techniques! 🎨

By bringing our workshop to the "City of Castles," we are helping local teachers create a bridge between Gondar’s rich heritage and the future of global urban art. Let's make some history of our own! ✨
