Is the spray paint safe for participants with sensitivities?

Absolutely! We use high-quality spray paint that is low-odour and non-toxic once dry. Each participant is provided with a full set of protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our artist-mentors are trained to supervise the spraying process closely, ensuring that everyone stays safe while they express their inner artist on the canvas. Safety and comfort are our top priorities for every workshop.

How do you accommodate participants with physical disabilities?

We pride ourselves on being fully inclusive. Whether a participant uses a wheelchair, has limited mobility, or needs extra sensory support, we adapt our setup. We can use adjustable easels, provide seated painting options, and ensure the workshop space in Pretoria is easily accessible. If there are specific physical requirements, just let us know in advance so we can prepare the perfect environment for your group.

Can you host the workshop at our own facility?

Yes, we do! While we have great locations in Pretoria, we are more than happy to bring the graffiti workshop to your school, care centre, or community hall. As long as there is a well-ventilated outdoor space or a large indoor area with high ceilings and airflow, we can set up our mobile studio and bring the art session directly to you for maximum convenience.

What experience do your artists have with special needs groups?

Our artists are not just talented painters; they are patient and enthusiastic mentors. They have extensive experience working with diverse groups, including those with Down syndrome, autism, and ADHD. They focus on encouragement, step-by-step guidance, and creating a 'no-mistakes' atmosphere. We keep the energy positive and the instructions simple to ensure everyone feels successful and proud of their work.

How long does a typical session last?

Our standard special needs workshops in Pretoria usually last between 1.5 and 2 hours. This timeframe is the 'sweet spot' for maintaining high engagement without causing fatigue. However, we are completely flexible! If your group prefers a shorter, high-energy session or a more relaxed, slower-paced morning of painting, we can customise the duration to fit your specific needs and attention spans.

Do participants need prior artistic experience?

Not at all! One of the biggest advantages of graffiti art is that it is incredibly forgiving. We start with basic patterns and shapes, allowing participants to explore the 'feel' of the spray can before moving on to bigger designs. Many of our participants have never held a spray can before, and they are always amazed at the vibrant, professional-looking results they achieve by the end.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your special needs program? It’s more than just a painting class—it’s a boost of confidence and a sensory adventure! 🚀

Sensory Engagement: The hiss of the can, the vibrant colours, and the physical movement offer a rich sensory experience that participants love.
No 'Right' Way to Art: Graffiti is inherently free-form, which removes the pressure of "perfection" often found in traditional art. 💪
Fine & Gross Motor Skills: Pressing the nozzle and moving with the spray can helps develop coordination in a fun, non-clinical way.
Professional Mentorship: Our Pretoria artists are patient, enthusiastic, and experts at adapting their teaching style on the fly.
Incredible Result: The high-impact nature of spray paint means that every participant walks away with a piece of art they are genuinely proud of. 🏆

Step by step

Initial consultation: Reach out to us to share your specific needs. We’ll chat about the group’s abilities and any sensory preferences to tailor the workshop perfectly.
Design selection: We choose a theme or simple templates that resonate with your group, ensuring every participant feels confident from the first spray.
Safety briefing: On the day, we start with a gentle introduction to the equipment, focusing on the fun and safe use of the protective masks and gloves.
Practice runs: Participants start by 'tagging' a practice wall or cardboard to get used to the pressure and flow of the spray cans.
The main creation: Under the guidance of our professional artists, the group begins working on their large-scale mural or individual canvases.
Layering & details: We help participants add vibrant colours and cool textures, watching the artwork come to life with every stroke.
The big reveal: We take a moment to celebrate! Everyone gets a chance to look at the finished masterpiece and feel that sense of accomplishment.
Photos & cleanup: We capture the smiles and the art with photos, and then we handle all the cleanup so you can just enjoy the memories.

Local culture

Pretoria, the vibrant Jacaranda City, is the perfect backdrop for a creative explosion. While the city is famous for its purple-lined streets and historic monuments, the local street art scene—from the urban murals in the CBD to the creative hubs in Hatfield—shows a city that is constantly evolving and expressive. 🇿🇦

Fun Pretoria Fact: Did you know that Pretoria is home to some of the most impressive legal graffiti walls in Gauteng? Our workshops draw inspiration from the city’s inclusive spirit, aiming to add even more colour to the local community through accessible art!

We bring that local 'Tshwane' energy to every workshop, making sure our participants feel connected to the urban culture of their city while enjoying a safe and structured environment. ✨
