Do I need prior graffiti experience to join the training in Sigatoka?

Absolutely! Our training sessions are designed for everyone from stick-figure doodlers to seasoned painters. We focus on the spray can technique, nozzle control, and layering, which are skills unique to street art. You don't need to be a 'fine artist' to become a great graffiti educator. We provide all the foundational knowledge you need to lead a class with confidence and flair. Ready to learn something new?

What materials are provided during the teacher professional development?

We come fully prepared! Your session includes high-quality, low-pressure spray cans, a wide selection of nozzles (caps), protective overalls, gloves, and high-spec masks. We also provide the practice surfaces, whether they are mobile walls or canvases. You just need to show up in comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on—just in case!

How do you handle safety during the graffiti workshops?

Safety is our number one priority. We use high-quality safety gear, including professional-grade respiratory masks and gloves. Our instructors are experts in 'can control' and site management, ensuring students stay a safe distance from each other while painting. During the training, we'll teach you how to set up a safe workspace in a school environment and how to manage ventilation and student safety zones effectively.

When do we have to pay for the teacher training session?

We understand that school budgets can be tight and plans change! That’s why we offer a 'pay after the workshop' policy. You don't need to worry about upfront costs to secure your date. Simply book your professional development day, and once we've delivered an incredible, spray-painted experience for your staff, we'll handle the invoicing. It’s all about making the process as stress-free as possible for you.

How long does a typical professional development session last?

We generally recommend a duration of 2 to 3 hours for a comprehensive teacher training session. This allows enough time for the theoretical background, safety briefing, technique practice, and the creation of a final piece of art. If you're looking for a more intensive deep-dive into street art history and advanced techniques, we can also offer full-day sessions. We're flexible and can adapt to your school's schedule!

Can you bring the training to our school in another city like Suva or Nadi?

Yes, we do! While Sigatoka is a beautiful base, our artists are mobile and love traveling across Fiji. Whether you are located in the heart of Suva, the busy streets of Nadi, or the industrial hub of Lautoka, we can bring the graffiti workshop directly to your school campus. We provide all the gear, so you don't have to worry about the logistics of moving your staff around.

Why is street art relevant for schools in Fiji right now?

Street art is making waves in Fiji! While traditional Fijian art is deeply respected, the younger generation is increasingly inspired by global street culture. By introducing graffiti into your curriculum, you're bridging the gap between heritage and modern expression. It's a fantastic way to engage students who might feel disconnected from traditional art forms, giving them a vibrant, large-scale outlet for their creativity.

The experience

Why choose graffiti art for your next professional development day in Sigatoka? Because it’s high-impact, incredibly fun, and provides immediate results. Here’s why educators love working with us:

Engage the 'Disengaged': Street art is a magnet for students who usually sit at the back of the classroom. We show you how to hook them in! 🎤
Boost Teacher Wellbeing: It’s not just for the kids. Spraying a wall is an amazing stress-reliever and a great way for staff to bond. 💪
Learn from Pro Artists: Our team consists of active graffiti artists who handle everything from safety to style with ease.
Hands-On Curriculum: Don't just talk about art; create it. You'll leave with practical skills you can use in the classroom the very next day. 🎨
No Bureaucratic Stress: With our 'pay later' policy and full gear provision, we make the booking process as smooth as a fresh coat of paint. 🎉

Step by step

Introduction to Street Culture: We kick things off with a brief history of graffiti, from New York subways to the vibrant walls of the Pacific, ensuring you understand the 'why' behind the art.
Gear and Safety Briefing: You'll get hands-on with the equipment. We'll show you how to fit masks, choose the right caps, and set up a workspace that keeps your students safe.
The Master Class in 'Can Control': Learn the essential techniques: lines, dots, fades, and fills. We'll teach you how to handle the pressure of the spray can like a pro artist.
Sketching and Lettering: Move from the wall to paper (and back!). We'll guide you through the process of designing graffiti letters and planning a large-scale mural.
Collaborative Mural Creation: Put your skills to the test! You and your colleagues will work together on a large-scale piece, experiencing the teamwork required for a school project.
Instructional Strategies: We share our secrets on how to teach these skills to different age groups, including tips on classroom management in an outdoor setting.
Final Review and Cleanup: We wrap up the session with a critique of the work and a guide on the most efficient (and eco-friendly) ways to clean up after a spray session.

Local culture

Sigatoka, famously known as the 'Salad Bowl' of Fiji, is a place where nature's vibrant greens meet the azure blues of the Coral Coast. But why should the beauty stop at the sand dunes? We believe the urban landscape of Sigatoka is the perfect canvas for a modern creative revolution. Street art in Fiji is a growing movement, blending traditional motifs with bold, contemporary techniques. By bringing art teacher training to this region, we're helping local educators tap into the energy of the Sigatoka River and the warmth of the local community. 🌴

Fun Fact: Did you know that the nearby Sigatoka Sand Dunes were Fiji's first National Park? Just as those dunes shift and change over time, the art scene in Fiji is constantly evolving, and we’re here to help you stay ahead of the curve! 🔥
