Can I get professional development credit for this workshop?

While we focus on the artistic and technical side of street art, we can provide completion certificates that outline the professional development hours spent. Many of our attendees utilize these certificates to secure credit for their school's continuous learning requirements. We recommend checking with your specific local department of education to see how our hands-on workshop fits into your official CPD requirements for the year.

Do I need previous experience with graffiti or spray cans?

No prior experience with spray paint is necessary! Our sessions are designed for art educators of all levels. Whether you are a traditional oil painter or have never held a can in your life, our artists will guide you through the basics. You will learn the exact same progression we use with students, giving you a ready-made curriculum to take back to your own classroom.

Are all the materials and safety equipment included?

Yes, we provide everything! This includes premium low-pressure spray cans (easier for beginners to control), various nozzles for different line widths, protective masks, gloves, and overalls. We also provide the 'canvas'—which could be a wall or large boards. You just need to show up in comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit dusty from the paint.

Will you teach us how to manage safety in a school setting?

Absolutely. Classroom safety is a major part of our training. We teach you about the different types of paint (water-based vs. solvent), the importance of proper ventilation, and how to manage a large group of students with spray cans safely. You will leave feeling confident that you can run a graffiti unit without any mishaps or mess in your school environment.

How much does the art teacher training cost?

Our pricing is flexible and depends on the number of teachers attending and the technical setup required. For Valparaiso sessions, prices generally range between $20,000 and $45,000 CLP per person. This covers all professional tuition, high-quality materials, and the use of the site. For large school departments or multi-day training, we offer custom packages. Just reach out for a personalised quote!

How long does a typical training session last?

We usually recommend allowing 2.5 to 3 hours for a comprehensive training session. This gives us enough time to cover the history of the movement, practice basic can control, learn advanced 'piece' building, and discuss pedagogical approaches for your students. If you have a specific time slot during an inset day, we can adapt the schedule to fit your school's needs perfectly.

The experience

Why choose Graffitifun for your professional growth? We don't just teach you how to paint; we teach you how to inspire. Here is why art teachers in Valparaiso love our training:

🚀 Boost student engagement: Graffiti is a 'hook' that reaches even the most disengaged students.
💪 Technical mastery: Transition from being a beginner to a confident spray artist in just one afternoon.
🎨 Curriculum ready: We provide practical tips on how to link street art to traditional art history and modern design.
🛡️ Safety first: Learn the professional way to manage paint fumes, nozzles, and classroom discipline.
🙌 Stress-free booking: No upfront payment required—you only pay after the workshop is complete!
🔥 Local expertise: Learn from artists who are active in the Chilean street art scene.

Step by step

Theory and history: We kick things off with a brief look at the evolution of street art, from prehistoric caves to the colourful hills of Valparaiso, helping you frame the context for your students.
Safety briefing: Learn the essential protocols for using aerosol paint in a group setting, including mask fitting and ventilation requirements.
The 'can control' basics: Practice your first lines, dots, and fades. We'll show you the 'teaching cues' to help students master the pressure.
Letterform construction: Move from simple 'tags' to 3D 'blockbusters'. We break down the geometry of graffiti letters so you can teach them step-by-step.
Layering and effects: Discover how to create light, shadow, and 'cut-backs'—the secret to making a piece look professional.
Collaborative mural work: Work together on a large-scale piece to understand the dynamics of group projects and mural management.
Pedagogical debrief: Wrap up with a Q&A session on how to integrate these skills into your specific curriculum and assessment frameworks.
