Is the graffiti workshop safe for school students?

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our professional artists are highly experienced in managing large groups and ensure that the spray paint is used correctly in well-ventilated outdoor areas. We use premium low-pressure cans that are easier for kids to control, making the experience both safe and super fun for everyone involved.

Can you host the workshop at our Newcastle school?

We are totally flexible! We can host the workshop right on your school grounds if you have a suitable outdoor space or a well-ventilated undercover area. Alternatively, we can help arrange a session at a local Newcastle spot or a legal street art wall. If we come to you, we make sure to protect the surrounding area with drop cloths so the only art created is the intended masterpiece.

How long does a typical school workshop last?

Our school workshops typically run for about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This timeframe is perfect for a standard school block and allows enough time for the intro, safety briefing, technique practice, and the final creation. However, we can easily customise the duration to fit your specific school timetable or extend it for a full-day intensive art program if you want to go deeper into street art history.

What is the cost per student for a graffiti workshop?

Prices in Newcastle generally range from A$40 to A$90 per student. The final cost depends on the number of participants, the duration of the session, and whether we are working on individual canvases or a large-scale collective mural. We offer competitive rates for larger cohorts and don't require upfront payments—you pay only after the workshop is completed. Get in touch for a tailored quote!

What age group is this workshop suitable for?

Our school programs are generally best suited for students aged 10 and up (Upper Primary and High School). The physical coordination required to handle a spray can is usually well-developed by this age. For younger students, we can adapt the workshop to focus more on stencil art and street-style drawing. We always tailor our teaching language and technical depth to match the specific age group we are working with.

Do students need to have prior art skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to budding young artists. Our pro instructors guide students through every step, starting with simple 'tagging' and 'throw-up' techniques before moving on to more complex designs. It's amazing to see how quickly students gain confidence. By the end of the session, everyone will have created something they can be proud of!

What materials do you provide for the school?

We bring everything needed for a successful session! This includes a wide variety of professional spray paint colours, caps (nozzles), gloves, masks, protective overalls, and the 'canvas' (which could be individual boards or a large communal wall). You just need to make sure the students wear old clothes and closed-toe shoes. We handle the setup and the pack-up, leaving the site exactly as we found it.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your Newcastle school? Because we blend education with pure, unadulterated creativity. It’s more than just painting; it’s about confidence and community. 🔥

Engagement through the roof: Street art speaks to students in a way traditional mediums often don't—expect 100% participation!
Professional artists: Our instructors aren't just teachers; they are active street artists who live and breathe the culture.
Curriculum aligned: We can tailor our sessions to cover PDHPE (teamwork/wellbeing) or Visual Arts outcomes.
Zero stress for teachers: We bring all the gear, manage the safety, and handle the cleanup. You just enjoy the vibes.
Foster school pride: Collaborative murals give students a sense of ownership and pride in their school environment.
No financial risk: With our 'pay after the workshop' policy and backup artist guarantee, your event is in safe hands.

Step by step

Initial consultation: Reach out to us to discuss your school's goals, student numbers, and preferred dates in Newcastle.
Choose your format: Decide between individual student canvases (which they can take home!) or a large collaborative mural for the school.
Safety first briefing: On the day, our pro artists start with a vital safety induction and a breakdown of the equipment.
The basics of spray art: Students learn 'can control', including how to vary line thickness, fading, and dots.
Design phase: Students sketch their ideas on paper first, guided by our artists to ensure their vision is 'sprayable'.
Outline and fill: Time to hit the wall! Students start by outlining their piece and filling in the vibrant colours.
Detailing and highlights: We teach the tricks of the trade, like adding '3D effects', outlines, and highlights to make the art pop.
Final reveal and cleanup: We wrap up the session with a group photo of the masterpieces and a thorough pack-up of the site.

We provide all the professional-grade gear, including low-pressure spray cans that are easy for smaller hands to manage. Most sessions run between 2 and 3 hours, but we can shorten or lengthen this to suit your school bell times. We cater to group sizes from small elective classes of 15 to entire year levels of 100+. Safety is our top priority, so we provide full PPE for every participant. All we need from you is an outdoor space and a group of excited students! ✨

Local culture

Newcastle has transformed from an industrial hub into a vibrant canvas for street art, and we love being part of that evolution! From the iconic murals in Cooks Hill to the hidden gems in Newcastle West, the city is dripping with inspiration. We bring that local Novocastrian grit and creativity into every school session. Our workshops often reference the local 'Big Picture Fest' vibes, showing students that art isn't just for galleries—it's part of the fabric of our city's streets.

Fun Fact: Did you know Newcastle hosts some of the most impressive large-scale murals in regional NSW? Many of these were created by world-class artists, proving that our city is a major player in the global street art scene! 🌊

Pricing

We believe in transparent pricing and high-quality experiences for Newcastle schools. Our prices typically range from A$40 to A$90 per student, depending on the number of participants and the type of project (e.g., individual canvases versus a permanent wall mural). The best part? There is no upfront payment required—you only pay once the workshop is complete and everyone is stoked with the results. 🏆
