Do I need any previous art experience to join?

You definitely don't need to be the next Banksy to have a blast! Our Newcastle workshops are designed for all skill levels, from total beginners to those who've dabbled in art before. Our pro artists guide you through every step, starting with basic can control and moving up to techinques like fading and outlining. By the end of the session, you'll be amazed at the masterpiece you've created. It's all about having a go and enjoying the process! 🎨

What materials are included in the workshop?

We've got you covered! Your booking includes everything you need for a legendary session: premium spray cans in a huge range of colours, protective masks, gloves, and overalls to keep your clothes clean. We also provide the canvases or practice boards. All you need to bring is your Newcastle spirit, some comfy closed-toe shoes, and plenty of energy. We handle the setup and the messy cleanup so you can focus entirely on the art. 🛡️

How long does a typical session last?

The duration of our cultural graffiti events in Newcastle typically ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours. This timeframe allows us to cover the history of the movement, practice basic techniques, and complete a final group or individual project. If you have a specific schedule or are fitting this into a larger festival or corporate day, just let us know. We're flexible and can tailor the timing to suit your event's flow perfectly. ⏱️

Is it safe to use spray paint indoors or outdoors?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks and nitrile gloves for every participant. Our workshops take place in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially designed indoor spaces. Our lead artists are also trained in site safety and will give a full briefing before anyone touches a can. We ensure a controlled, respectful environment where everyone feels comfortable and secure while they explore their creative side. ⛑️

What happens if it rains on the day of my event?

Newcastle weather can be a bit unpredictable, but we’re prepared! For outdoor events, we always try to have a backup plan or marquee options. If the weather really doesn't play ball, we can often relocate to an indoor venue or reschedule to a better day. We also have a crew of backup artists ready to step in, so you never have to worry about a last-minute cancellation from our end. Your event is in safe hands. ☀️

Can you bring the workshop to our specific location in Newcastle?

Absolutely! While we love hosting groups at our partner locations around Newy, we are fully mobile. If you have a backyard, office car park, or a community space in Newcastle that you want to transform, we can bring the whole setup to you. We just need to ensure the space is suitable for spray painting and has enough ventilation. It’s a fantastic way to bring a unique cultural vibe directly to your own venue. 🚚

How does the payment process work?

One of the best things about Graffitifun is our 'no upfront payment' policy for most bookings. You can lock in your date and time without stressing about an immediate invoice. You simply pay after the workshop is completed and you're 100% satisfied with the experience. This keeps things easy for organisers and gives you total peace of mind. The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next event in Newy? It’s more than just painting—it’s about breaking barriers and discovering a new way to express yourself. Here is why you’ll love it:

Unique urban experience: Move beyond the typical bowling or pub crawl and try something truly original. 🏙️
Complete creative freedom: There are no mistakes in street art—just happy accidents and new layers!
Expert local artists: Learn from professionals who are active in the Australian street art scene.
Eco-conscious & safe: We use high-quality, low-odour paints and provide all necessary safety gear. 🛡️
Perfect for any group: From bachelor parties to educational school workshops.
Satisfaction prioritised: With our "pay after" policy, we ensure you have a blast before you part with your cash. 🔥

Step by step

The intro: We kick things off with a brief history of the global graffiti movement and how it evolved into the vibrant street art scene we see in Newcastle today.
Safety first: Suit up! We gear everyone up with masks, gloves, and protective suits to ensure you stay clean and safe throughout the session.
Can control: Our pro artists show you the ropes—literally. You'll learn how to hold the can, control the pressure, and master the different nozzles (caps) for various effects.
Sketching your vibe: Start by mapping out your vision. Whether it's a tag, a character, or a wildstyle piece, we'll help you get the proportions right on the wall.
Filling & fading: This is where the colour comes in! We teach you the 'fill-in' technique and how to create smooth gradients and transitions between different shades.
The outline: Sharpen your piece by adding the final outlines. This is the stage where your artwork truly starts to pop and look professional.
Details and highlights: Add those final touches—shines, shadows, and 'bits'—to give your masterpiece depth and character.
The big reveal: Step back and admire the collective work. It's time for photos and a debrief on the skills you've just picked up.
Leave your mark: You've officially contributed to Newy's creative culture! Pack up, peel off the gear, and take your newfound skills (and maybe a canvas) home.

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Newcastle’s transformation from a steel city to a street art sanctuary is legendary. From the iconic murals lining the streets of Wickham and Cooks Hill to the hidden gems in the laneways around Hunter Street, the city is a living canvas. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, celebrating the DIY attitude that defines Newy. We don't just teach you to paint; we connect you with the local urban vibe that makes Newcastle one of the coolest creative hubs in Australia. 🇦🇺

Fun Fact: Did you know Newcastle hosts some of the most impressive street art festivals in the country? Many of the massive murals you see on local buildings were created by world-renowned artists who come to specifically soak up Newy's unique industrial-meets-ocean atmosphere.

Pricing

Our Newcastle graffiti experiences are designed to be accessible and high-impact. Pricing typically ranges from A$40 to A$90 per person, depending on the size of your crew and the specific requirements of your event. We believe in transparency and flexibility, which is why we don't charge upfront—you only pay once the spray paint has dried and you're happy with the result! 💸
