What is the minimum age for the after-school graffiti workshop?

Our graffiti workshops are designed for ages 10 and up. We find this is the perfect age where students have the motor skills to control the spray cans and the creative focus to follow the design process. For younger groups, we can adjust the session to use markers or water-based paints, ensuring everyone in the Glasgow after-school club feels included and safe while they create.

Is the spray paint safe for children to use?

Safety is our top priority! We provide high-quality FFP3 respiratory masks, disposable gloves, and protective ponchos to keep clothes clean. Our instructors are professional artists who have undergone thorough background checks (PVG/DBS) and are trained in managing groups of young people. We always work in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially set-up indoor spaces with proper extraction to ensure a healthy environment for every student.

Do the students need to have prior artistic talent?

Not at all! This workshop is designed for all skill levels, from those who can't draw a stick figure to aspiring young Da Vincis. Our Glasgow artists break down the process into simple, manageable steps. We focus on the 'fun' in Graffitifun, teaching techniques like 'fading,' 'outlining,' and 'highlighting' that make anyone's work look professional by the end of the session.

Where do the after-school sessions actually take place?

We are very flexible! We can host the workshop directly at your school grounds in Glasgow, provided there is a suitable outdoor wall or space where we can set up our mobile boards. Alternatively, we can arrange for the group to meet at one of Glasgow's designated legal street art spots. We bring all the necessary equipment to you, making it a hassle-free addition to your extracurricular programme.

How long does a typical afternoon session last?

Standard after-school sessions usually run for about 1.5 to 2 hours. This provides enough time for a safety briefing, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the creation of a final masterpiece. If you have a specific time slot to fill, such as a 60-minute club or a longer half-term intensive, just let us know and we can tailor the rhythm of the workshop to fit.

Do the students get to keep their artwork?

We believe in freedom of expression! Students can choose to work on their own individual wooden boards or canvases, which they get to take home. We also offer the option for the group to collaborate on one large 'mural' board that can be displayed in the school hallway or playground. It’s a fantastic way to build teamwork and leave a lasting artistic legacy in the school.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

We aren't afraid of a bit of Scottish weather! If it's just a light drizzle, we can often work under gazebos. However, if the Glasgow weather is truly 'baltic' or pouring down, we have backup plans. We can move the session indoors using low-odour water-based pens or specialised indoor paint techniques, or we can reschedule the workshop to a better day at no extra cost.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your Glasgow after-school programme? Because we mix education with pure, unadulterated coolness. It’s the perfect way to engage students who might struggle with traditional academic subjects, giving them a unique outlet for their energy. 🚀

Boosts Confidence: Seeing a giant, colourful piece of art you created yourself is a massive ego-boost for any teen or child. 💪
Team Building: Our collaborative murals encourage students to communicate and work together to achieve a "big picture" result.
Skill Development: We teach real artistic techniques—colour theory, composition, and can control—that apply to all areas of art. 🎨
Safety First: We handle the "dangerous" reputation of graffiti by teaching it as a disciplined, legal, and respectful art form.
Zero Stress for Teachers: We bring everything. You just provide the students, and we handle the setup, the teaching, and the cleanup. 🧹
Professional Artists: Our instructors aren't just teachers; they are active members of the UK street art scene.

Step by step

The arrival & intro: Our pro graffiti artist arrives at your Glasgow location and sets up the "creative zone" with boards and drop-cloths.
Safety first: Every student gets geared up with a professional mask, gloves, and a poncho—safety is cool, after all! 🛡️
Mastering the tools: We start with a demo on "can control." Students learn how to hold the spray can, how much pressure to use, and how distance affects the lines.
Tagging basics: Before the masterpieces, we practice the basics of lettering and "tags" to get the flow of the hand movement right.
Sketching the vision: Students brainstorm their design ideas on paper or directly onto the board with chalk to map out their street art.
The first layer: Time to spray! Students apply their "fill-ins" (the base colours) using moving techniques we've practiced together. ✨
Adding the "pop": We teach how to add 3D effects, shadows, and highlights to make the letters jump off the board.
Fine-tuning: Our artist helps with the tricky "outlining" to give the artwork that professional, clean finish.
The big reveal: We finish with a group photo and a "gallery walk" where students can show off their work to their mates and teachers! 📸

Local culture

Glasgow is world-renowned for its incredible City Centre Mural Trail, featuring stunning works by artists like Smug and Rogue-one. From the giant 'St Mungo' on High Street to the 'Billy Connolly' tributes, our city's walls tell a story. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, turning Glasgow's youth into the next generation of urban creators. 🏙️

Fun Fact: Did you know that Glasgow was one of the first UK cities to officially embrace large-scale street art as a way to rejuvenate urban spaces? It's literally in the city's DNA!

We bring that same "People Make Glasgow" spirit to every session, ensuring that our workshop feels like a true part of the local art scene, whether we're in the West End, Southside, or out in Easterhouse. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
