Is the graffiti workshop safe for primary and secondary students?

Absolutely! Safety is our top priority for every session. We provide all participants with high-quality FFP3 masks to prevent paint inhalation, as well as protective gloves and overalls to keep school uniforms clean. Our professional artists are fully DBS checked and highly experienced in supervising young people. We only use professional-grade spray paint in well-ventilated outdoor or semi-outdoor areas to ensure a healthy environment for everyone involved.

How long does an after-school session usually last?

The standard after-school workshop in Leeds typically lasts between 90 minutes and 2 hours. This timeframe allows enough time for a proper safety briefing, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice sessions, and the creation of a final collaborative masterpiece. If your school has a specific club timetable, we can often adjust the session length to fit your schedule perfectly—just let us know your requirements!

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Don't worry, we've got it covered! While we love the fresh air of the Yorkshire outdoors, we always have a Plan B. If the weather looks like it's going to be a 'bit grim', we can set up in a sheltered outdoor area or a very well-ventilated indoor space using water-based paints or focused sketching sessions. We also have a network of backup artists to ensure your booking never falls through.

Do the students need any prior art or drawing skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. Our artist-tutors are experts at breaking down complex street art styles into simple, manageable steps. Students will start with basic 'tags' and 'throws' before moving on to more advanced 'pieces'. It's all about building confidence and showing every child that they have a unique creative voice, regardless of their previous art experience.

What materials do we need to provide for the workshop?

We provide absolutely everything needed for a world-class street art experience. This includes professional spray cans in a vibrant rainbow of colours, various nozzle 'caps' for different effects, protective gear (masks, gloves, overalls), and the surfaces to paint on. Whether we are painting on a temporary mobile wall, a permanent school mural, or individual canvases for the kids to keep, we bring the whole studio to you.

How do we book a session and when do we pay?

Booking is simple and stress-free with Graffitifun. You can start by using our online Cost Calculator or Tag Creator to get inspired. Once you're ready, simply contact us with your preferred dates and group size. We don't require any upfront payment—you only pay after the workshop is complete. We ensure a smooth process from the initial chat to the final spray, making it easy for busy teachers!

The experience

Why choose our graffiti sessions for your Leeds after-school programme? It’s more than just painting on walls—it’s about unlocking a whole new way of thinking! 🎤

Pure creative freedom: We give students a break from the rigid curriculum and let their imaginations run wild with bold colours. 🌈
Building resilience: Learning to control a spray can takes practice, teaching kids that patience and persistence pay off. 💪
Teamwork in action: Our collaborative murals require students to communicate and coordinate, creating something bigger than themselves. 🤝
Local expertise: Our Leeds-based artists know the local scene and provide relatable, inspiring mentorship. 🏆
Zero-stress for teachers: We bring everything, manage the entire session, and clean up afterwards. You don't have to lift a finger! ✨
Safe and legal: We teach the difference between vandalism and street art, promoting respect for the local Leeds environment. 🛡️

Step by step

Initial arrival and setup: Our professional artists arrive at your Leeds school early to set up the 'graffiti zone' with boards, paints, and safety gear.
Safety briefing and gear-up: Students are fitted with protective overalls, gloves, and professional masks while learning the essential 'golden rules' of spray can safety.
The art of the tag: We start with the basics—the history of street art and how to design a personal 'tag' or signature using markers and paper.
Spray can introduction: Students get their first taste of the paint, learning how to control pressure, distance, and line thickness with different nozzles.
Technique masterclass: Our artists demonstrate fading, 3D effects, 'shines', and outlines to give the kids the professional tools they need for their art.
Concept brainstorming: The group works together to plan a large-scale mural or individual pieces, choosing a theme that resonates with their school or community.
The main creation: This is where the magic happens! Students apply their new skills to the wall or canvas, bringing their collective vision to life in vibrant colour.
Final touches and photos: We add those professional 'clean-ups' to the lines and then take group photos of the finished masterpiece for the school newsletter.
Clean up and pack away: We leave the site exactly as we found it (minus the awesome new art!), packing up all equipment and materials efficiently.

Local culture

Leeds has a rich and thriving street art scene that serves as the perfect backdrop for our workshops. From the iconic 'Athena Rising' mural near the station (one of the tallest in the UK!) to the colourful walls of the Mabgate area, the city is a living gallery. We draw inspiration from the local Leeds 'Owl' motifs and the vibrant urban energy of the West Yorkshire landscape. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that Leeds is home to some of the most famous legal street art spots in the North? The city's 'Street Art Trail' features works by international artists, proving that Leeds truly understands the power of public creativity! 🦉
