What should I wear to a graffiti workshop at a festival?

Absolutely! While we provide protective suits and gloves, we always advise wearing old clothes and trainers that you don't mind getting a splash of colour on. Spray paint is permanent, and while we take every precaution to keep you clean, the most enthusiastic artists usually end up with a little 'souvenir' on their shoes. It is all part of the authentic music festival experience in Sarpsborg!

Is the spray paint safe for festival-goers?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality masks, gloves, and protective overalls for every participant. Our professional artists lead a safety briefing before any cans are shaken, ensuring everyone understands how to use the equipment responsibly. We use low-odour, high-quality paints, and being an outdoor festival activity in Sarpsborg, there is plenty of natural ventilation to keep the environment safe and comfortable for everyone involved.

Do I need any previous art experience to join?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for everyone from absolute beginners to closet Picassos. Our expert street artists will guide you through the basics, from how to hold the can to creating cool effects like fades and drips. Most of our festival participants have never touched a spray can before, yet they always walk away with something they are incredibly proud of. It is all about having fun!

Are the workshops suitable for children and families?

Generally, we suggest ages 6 and up for our festival workshops. Younger children might struggle with the physical pressure required to use the spray nozzles, but we can often provide alternative markers or stencils so they can still join the fun. For the teenagers and adults, it’s a full-throttle creative experience. We ensure the environment is inclusive and exciting for all age groups attending the event in Sarpsborg.

How long does a typical festival session last?

The beauty of a music festival setup is flexibility. We offer 'drop-in' style sessions where you can spend 20 minutes making a quick tag or stencil piece, as well as more structured 1.5 to 2-hour workshops for those who want to dive deep into technique. Depending on the Sarpsborg festival schedule, we can tailor the timing to ensure you don't miss your favourite headline act while still getting your creative fix.

What happens if it rains during the outdoor festival?

We are prepared for the Norwegian weather! If the Sarpsborg skies open up, we usually work under gazebos or stretch tents to keep the artists and the artwork dry. Graffiti actually has a long history of being created in 'less than perfect' conditions, so a little drizzle won't stop the creative energy. If conditions become too extreme, our backup artists will coordinate a safe pause until things clear up.

Can we take our artwork home with us?

We can operate in two ways: creating a massive collaborative mural on a temporary 'legal wall' that stays at the festival as a piece of decor, or individual workshops where you paint on canvas or boards that you can take home. Many Sarpsborg festival organisers love the collaborative mural because it creates a lasting memory of the event and provides a perfect backdrop for photos and social media posts.

The Intro: Festival-goers are welcomed by our pro artists who give a quick, high-energy demo on can control and safety.
The Masterclass: We teach the 'secret' techniques — from creating sharp outlines to blending vibrant colours like a pro.
Creative Freedom: Participants get hands-on with the cans, either contributing to a giant festival mural or creating their own unique piece.
Live Refinement: Our artists circulate, offering tips, tricks, and helping people turn their rough sketches into street art masterpieces.
The Big Reveal: Once the session is over, we celebrate the finished work! It becomes a vibrant landmark in the middle of the Sarpsborg festival grounds.

Local culture

Sarpsborg is a city that knows how to celebrate its roots, from its Viking heritage to its bustling modern centre. When it comes to street art, the city offers a unique backdrop where old-world charm meets new-age expression. Bringing a graffiti workshop to a music festival here feels like a natural evolution of the local art scene. We love setting up near the Glomma river or within sight of the historic architecture, blending the urban grit of spray paint with the natural beauty of Østfold. 🎨

Fun Fact: Sarpsborg was founded by Saint Olaf in 1016, making it one of Norway's oldest cities. While the Vikings used runes, we prefer using Montana Gold spray cans to leave a lasting impression! 🛡️

Whether you're visiting for a festival from Oslo or Trondheim, you'll find that Sarpsborg has a creative vibe all of its own. Our workshops aim to capture that local spirit and channel it through the vibrant, high-energy lens of street art.
