The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your students? It’s more than just painting—it’s about building confidence and teamwork in a way that regular lessons can't match. 🚀

  • Total inclusivity: Street art doesn't care if you're a "maths person" or an "athlete"—everyone starts on a level playing field. ✨
  • Boosts mental health: Spray painting is a physical, meditative process that allows for immense emotional expression. 🧠
  • Collaborative spirit: Creating a large-scale mural requires communication, planning, and collective pride. 🤝
  • Professional guidance: Our artists are mentors who teach respect for public spaces and the difference between art and vandalism. 🎤
  • Zero stress for teachers: We bring everything, set it all up, and clean it all up. You just show up! 🏆
  • Real-world skills: Students learn about colour theory, composition, and large-scale project management. 💪

Step by step

  1. Intro & inspiration: We kick things off with a high-energy look at the history of street art and how it evolved from subculture to global art movement.
  2. Safety first: Every student gets kitted out in protective gear and learns the vital safety 'dos and don'ts' of using spray cans.
  3. Mastering the can: Our artists demonstrate 'can control'—teaching students how to create thin lines, fat drips, and smooth gradients.
  4. Sketching the vision: Before hitting the canvas, students work in groups to sketch out their ideas, focusing on letters and flow.
  5. First strokes: Students move to their individual practice stations to get a feel for the pressure and speed of the spray.
  6. Filling & fading: We dive into the 'pieces'—teaching techniques for filling in large areas and creating cool 3D shadows.
  7. The grand mural: The whole class collaborates on a massive, temporary 'wall' to create a collective masterpiece that represents the school.
  8. The finishing touch: Our pros help with 'outlining' and 'highlighting' to make the students' artwork pop!
  9. Photo op & wrap-up: We finish with a group photo in front of the mural and a quick debrief on what everyone learned.

Local culture

Street art in Goroka

Goroka is famous for its incredible Goroka Show and the stunning cultural feathers and paints of the Asaro Mudmen. Our graffiti workshops celebrate this local tradition of visual storytelling by blending it with modern urban techniques. We love seeing how students in the Eastern Highlands integrate traditional patterns into their graffiti 'tags'. Street art is about identity, and there’s no better place than Goroka to explore what it means to be a young person in Papua New Guinea today.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the bold, bright colours used in traditional PNG bilums use similar colour theory principles to modern graffiti? It's all about making a statement!
