What specific skills will I learn during the art teacher training?

Specifically in Bloemfontein, we focus on safe spray paint techniques, stencil cutting, and the 'anatomy' of a graffiti letter. You will learn about the different types of nozzles (caps), how to manage paint pressure, and how to teach these motor skills to students of various ages while maintaining a professional classroom environment.

Do I need to have graffiti experience before joining?

No prior experience is necessary! Whether you are a classically trained fine arts teacher or a primary school educator looking for new ideas, we start with the basics. Our Bloemfontein workshops are designed to take you from a complete beginner to a confident street art instructor in just one session.

Is the spray paint safe to use in a school environment?

We take safety very seriously. We provide high-quality FFP3 masks, nitrile gloves, and protective overalls for every participant. During the training, we also teach you how to set up a safe outdoor or well-ventilated indoor 'spray zone' at your own school to ensure your students stay protected.

Will I receive a certificate after the workshop?

Yes! Upon completion of the training in Bloemfontein, you will receive a certificate of participation from Graffitifun. This document outlines the technical skills and safety protocols you have mastered, which can be added to your professional development portfolio or CPD record.

How long does a typical teacher training session last?

The standard professional development session usually lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours. This allows enough time for the theoretical background, technical practice, and a final collaborative piece. We can also arrange full-day intensive sessions if your department wants to go deeper into mural planning.

What is the minimum group size for a training booking?

For our training sessions in Bloemfontein, we usually require a minimum of 5 participants. However, if you are an individual teacher, please contact us! We often group educators from different schools together or can offer a bespoke private session depending on artist availability.

Curriculum integration: We show you how to link graffiti techniques to standard art assessment criteria.
Safety first: Master the use of PPE and proper ventilation so you can run safe workshops at your school.

Boost student engagement: Graffiti is a high-interest topic that can bring even the most reluctant art students back into the fold.
Expert guidance: Learn from working street artists who have painted murals across South Africa.

Step by step

Initial consultation: Reach out to us to discuss your school's specific curriculum needs and your current art department goals.
Theory & history: We start the session in Bloemfontein with a brief look at the evolution of street art from vandalism to a respected global art movement.
Material mastery: Learn the technical side of the gear, including different spray cans, low-pressure vs high-pressure paint, and cap selection.
Basic techniques: Practice the fundamentals of lines, dots, and fills on our practice surfaces under expert guidance.
Safety protocol: We walk you through the essential health and safety setup required for running a graffiti workshop with minors.
Lettering & style: Learn how to teach students to build 'pieces' using basic bars and structures rather than just 'bubbles'.
The mural project: Work together on a collaborative wall to experience the project management side of a large-scale school mural.
Lesson planning: We wrap up by helping you integrate these practical skills into a structured lesson plan suitable for the South African CAPS curriculum or IEB.

Local culture

Bloemfontein might be known for its historic architecture and beautiful gardens, but there is a growing urban pulse in the Free State that is screaming for creative expression. From the colorful vibes at Loch Logan Waterfront to the artistic pockets in Westdene, Bloem is the perfect place to grow your skills. We bring the edgy, urban energy of the 'City of Roses' into our workshops, ensuring that local teachers feel connected to the South African street art scene. Our training sessions often take place in open, creative spaces that reflect the big-sky beauty of the Free State, giving you the perfect backdrop to master the art of the spray can.

Prices typically range from R400 to R900 per person, depending on the duration of the training and the number of participants in your group.
