Do I need prior graffiti experience to join the training?

No prior experience with spray cans is required! Our Riga workshop is designed specifically for beginners. We focus on teaching the pedagogy and technique from the ground up, ensuring you feel confident handling the medium before you ever have to demonstrate it to a class. We provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where making 'mistakes' is actually part of the creative learning process.

What safety gear is provided and taught?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls for all participants. During the training, we also cover important health and safety protocols for the classroom, including proper ventilation, fire safety, and choosing low-toxicity paints. You’ll leave with a full checklist of how to run a safe and professional street art session for your own students.

How long does the teacher training session last?

Standard professional development sessions in Riga typically last between 2 and 3 hours. This allows enough time for a bit of history, technical demonstrations, plenty of hands-on practice, and a final collaborative piece. If you are looking for a more intensive Masterclass, we can extend the duration to a full day to cover advanced mural techniques and curriculum integration.

Can you host the training at our school or facility?

Absolutely! We can bring the entire graffiti workshop to your school grounds in Riga, Daugavpils, or anywhere in Latvia. As long as there is a suitable outdoor wall or we can set up our mobile plastic 'walls' in a well-ventilated area, we are good to go. This is a great way to train an entire department at once in their own backyard.

How does the payment process work?

Unlike many other providers, we don't require any payment upfront. We believe in the quality of our training and want you to be 100% satisfied. You can settle the invoice after the workshop is completed. This makes the booking process much smoother for school administrations and teacher unions who often have specific billing cycles.

What specific techniques will I learn?

We cover everything from 'tagging' (the foundation of calligraphy) to 'pieces' (large-scale colourful works). You’ll learn about fill-ins, outlines, highlights, and 3D effects. Crucially, we also discuss the cultural context of street art—helping you teach your students the difference between commissioned murals and illegal graffiti, and how to respect public spaces while being creative.

Are the instructors actual graffiti artists?

Yes! Our Riga team consists of professional street artists who have years of experience in both large-scale muralism and education. We always have backup artists on call to ensure that your scheduled training session never gets cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. You are in expert hands with people who actually live and breathe this art form every day.

The experience

Why should you choose Graffitifun for your professional development in Riga? Because we treat street art with the respect it deserves—as a legitimate, complex, and highly engaging art form. Here is why teachers love working with us:

Boost student engagement: Graffiti is a 'hook' that gets even the most disengaged students excited about art. 🔥
Learn from the pros: Our instructors aren't just teachers; they are active muralists in the Riga scene.
Hands-on confidence: You won't just watch; you'll spend 90% of the session with a can in your hand. 🎤
Safety first: We teach you exactly how to manage fumes, drips, and safety gear in a school setting.
Zero risk booking: With no upfront payment and backup artists ready to go, your event is 100% secure. 🏆
Versatile curriculum: We show you how to link graffiti to history, social justice, and typography.

If you're also looking for other ways to bring art to your community, check out our options for festivals, company events, or even kids parties for the younger ones! ✨

Step by step

Intro to the culture: We start with a brief, high-energy look at the history of street art and how it evolved into a global movement.
Can control basics: Learn how to hold the can, swap nozzles (caps), and manage pressure for different line widths.
The 'Tag' foundation: Master the art of the signature, focusing on flow, rhythm, and letter structure.
Sketching & planning: Learn how to help students transition their ideas from a sketchbook to a large-scale wall.
Filling & fading: Get hands-on with colour blending and creating those iconic smooth gradients.
Outlining & highlights: Discover the 'secret sauce' that makes graffiti pop—sharpening edges and adding light effects.
Classroom management: We discuss how to organise a class of 30 kids with spray cans while keeping things tidy and safe.
Collaborative mural: Work together with other teachers to create a final masterpiece, putting all your new skills to use.
Debrief & resources: Wrap up with a Q&A and receive digital resources to help you plan your first street art lesson.

Local culture

Riga has an incredible street art scene that serves as the perfect backdrop for our training. From the massive, world-class murals commissioned during the 'Blank Canvas' festival to the hidden gems in the creative quarters, the city is a living museum. We often draw inspiration from the local Baltic aesthetic—a mix of folklore motifs and modern urban grit. Our workshops celebrate this unique Latvian blend, helping you find ways to incorporate local culture into your street art lessons.

Fun Fact: Did you know Riga is home to one of the largest graffiti murals in the Baltics? The 'Saule, Pērkons, Daugava' mural on Tallinas iela covers 800 square metres and was inspired by a legendary Latvian song! 🇱🇻

In addition to our Riga sessions, we also offer training and workshops in Daugavpils, Liepaja, Jelgava, and Jurmala. No matter where you are in Latvia, we can bring the art of the street to you.

Pricing

We believe that high-quality professional development should be accessible to all schools and educators. Our pricing is flexible based on your specific needs, the number of participants, and the location of the session.

Investment per person: €18 - €38

Available for individuals and large school departments.

Note: No upfront payment is required! Pay only after the training is completed.
