Do I need to have any prior graffiti experience to join?

Absolutely no prior experience is needed! Our local Wroclaw artists are experts at teaching the basics to total beginners. We break down complex street art techniques into manageable steps that you can easily replicate in your own classroom. You'll leave the training feeling confident, inspired, and ready to guide your students through their very first 'piece' with professional-grade knowledge.

Is the workshop safe for teachers and students?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective suits for all participants. During the training, we also cover the essential safety protocols you should implement when working with spray cans in a school environment, including ventilation tips and proper material handling. You'll learn how to keep the creative process both fun and completely safe for your students.

What materials are included in the teacher training?

We provide everything! This includes premium spray cans in a rainbow of colours, various caps (nozzles) for different effects, protective gear, and the surfaces we'll be painting on. We also provide professional sketches and inspiration boards. You just need to show up in comfortable clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on.

How long does a typical training session last?

Standard professional development sessions typically last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time to cover the history of the movement, master basic can control, and complete a full-scale collaborative mural. If you have specific time constraints or want a more intensive full-day masterclass, we can easily customise the schedule to fit your needs.

Can you host the training at our school in Wroclaw?

Yes, we can! While we have fantastic locations in Wroclaw, we are fully mobile. If your school has a suitable outdoor wall or a well-ventilated space, we can bring the entire graffiti workshop experience directly to your campus. This is a great way to see how the activity works within your specific physical environment and saves on travel time for your staff.

How can I apply these skills to the national curriculum?

The techniques you'll learn are incredibly versatile. Beyond just 'making a mural', we show you how to integrate street art into your existing curriculum. This includes links to art history, typography lessons, discussions on public vs. private space, and even using graffiti as a medium for social commentary or school branding projects. It’s a multi-disciplinary tool for modern education.

What are the benefits of graffiti for student development?

Graffiti is a powerful tool for social-emotional learning. It allows students who might struggle with traditional 'fine art' to find their voice in a high-energy, contemporary format. It encourages collaboration, boosts confidence, and helps build a positive school culture. Our training focuses heavily on how to use street art as a bridge to reach disengaged learners and foster a sense of community.

The experience

Why bring urban art into your teaching toolkit? It's about more than just paint on walls; it's about connecting with youth culture in a way that traditional art often misses. 🚀

Instant engagement: Graffiti is arguably the most 'current' art form, instantly grabbing the attention of even your toughest students. ✨
Boosted confidence: Street art is forgiving and bold, helping students overcome the 'fear of the blank page'. 💪
Team building: Nothing brings a staff room (or a classroom) together like collaborating on a massive mural project. 🤝
Modern skills: You'll learn contemporary techniques that are highly relevant to graphic design, typography, and public art. 🎤
Stress relief: Let's be honest—spraying a wall is incredibly satisfying and a great way for teachers to decompress! 🏆

Step by step

The basics of can control: Start by learning how to hold the can, adjust your distance, and master the pressure for perfect lines.
Caps and nozzles: Discover the 'secret weapons' of street art—different caps for thin details or massive fills.
Sketching and scaling: Learn how to take a small drawing and blow it up to wall-size using the 'doodle grid' or transparent methods.
Layering and outlines: Master the order of operations—from the 'fill-in' to the 'cut-back' and that final, crisp 'power outline'.
3D effects and highlights: Add depth to your letters with 3D blocks and make them pop with strategic light 'shines'.
Classroom management: We'll share specific tips on how to manage a group of 30 students with spray cans without losing control.
Collaborative mural: Work together with your colleagues to create a large-scale piece, experiencing the teamwork required for a school project.
Feedback and review: A final wrap-up where we discuss how to adapt these techniques for different age groups and abilities.

Local culture

Wroclaw isn't just about the beautiful Gothic architecture of Ostrów Tumski; it's a living canvas! From the vibrant murals in the Nadodrze district to the hidden gems in the courtyards of Ruska 46, this city lives and breathes urban art. Our training taps into this local spirit, showing you how to connect your students with the visual language of their own streets. 🎨

Fun fact: Wroclaw is home to the 'Do It Yourself' (DIY) mural culture, where residents and artists often collaborate to revitalise old tenement backyards, making it the perfect city for community-focused art training! 🏗️
