Do we need any previous art experience to join?

Absolutely! Most university students have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists start with the basics, including safety, can control, and nozzle techniques. We’ll guide you through every step, from your first 'tag' to a finished masterpiece. It’s all about having fun and learning a new skill in a relaxed, social environment. No artistic background is required to create something amazing!

What materials are included in the workshop?

We provide everything you need for a complete street art experience. This includes professional-grade spray cans in a huge range of colours, protective overalls, gloves, and masks to keep your clothes clean. We also provide the canvases or boards you'll be painting on. Just bring your enthusiasm and wear some comfortable shoes you don't mind getting a tiny bit of dust on!

Is the graffiti workshop safe for students?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality FFP3 masks and nitrile gloves to all participants. Our workshops are ideally held in well-ventilated outdoor spaces or large indoor areas with proper airflow. Our instructors are experienced professionals who ensure everyone handles the equipment correctly. We also use low-odour, high-quality paints to ensure the best possible environment for your group.

How long does a typical session last?

A standard university workshop usually lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This gives you enough time for a safety briefing, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the creation of a final large-scale piece. We can easily adjust the duration to fit into your society's schedule or your university's Freshers' Week programme. Just let us know your time constraints!

Can you host the workshop on our university campus?

We are extremely flexible! We can host the workshop at one of our dedicated graffiti spots in Manchester, or we can bring the 'mobile wall' to your university campus or Union building. If you have a specific space in mind, like a courtyard or a car park, we can check its suitability. Our setup is designed to be mess-free and professional wherever we go.

How does the booking and payment process work?

Yes! We offer a 'pay after the workshop' policy for peace of mind. While we may require a deposit for larger events, the final balance isn't due until you've actually experienced the fun. We also have backup artists available to ensure your event goes ahead no matter what, providing 100% reliability for your student union or society planning.

Can we create a collaborative mural for our society?

Definitely! We love helping student groups create a lasting legacy. We can work with you to design a mural that reflects your society's values, your hall of residence's identity, or a specific awareness campaign. Our artists will help you sketch the concept and then guide the group in filling it in, resulting in a professional-looking piece of art the whole university can admire.

The experience

Forget the standard pub crawl—here is why a graffiti workshop is the best choice for your Manchester student group:

Stress Buster: There is nothing more therapeutic than the 'hiss' of a spray can after an intense exam week! 🧠
Insta-Worthy Content: Your society's social media will blow up with the vibrant colours and behind-the-scenes action. 📸
Zero Skill Required: It doesn't matter if you're an architecture major or a physics student; everyone can spray! 🚀
Authentic Manchester Vibes: Immerse yourselves in the local culture of the Northern Quarter in a hands-on way. ✨
Society Bonding: Collaborating on a massive mural is the ultimate way to turn strangers into mates. 🤝
Flexible Locations: We can come to your halls, the student union, or a local urban park. 📍

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: Meet your pro artist and get kitted out in protective gear (masks, gloves, and suits).
The Art of the Tag: Learn the history of graffiti and start with basic lettering techniques and 'tags'.
Can Control: Master the spray can! You'll learn about different nozzles (caps) and how to control pressure for thin or thick lines.
Concept Sketching: Grab a marker and plan your design on paper or directly on the wall under the guidance of our pros.
Fills and Fades: Learn how to fill in your letters and create cool colour gradients and 'fades' for that professional look.
Cutting and Outlining: Sharpen your work by 'cutting' back into the paint and adding bold outlines to make it pop.
Highlights & Details: Add the finishing touches—shines, 3D effects, and bubbles to give your art character.
The Big Reveal: Step back and admire the collective work of your society or group!
Photo Op: Grab some group photos with your masterpieces before heading off with your individual boards.

Local culture

Manchester is a global street art powerhouse. From the iconic 'Manchester Bee' symbols found on every corner to the massive, curated murals in the Northern Quarter and Ancoats, this city breathes creativity. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, often taking inspiration from the legendary 'Outhouse' project in Stevenson Square. We bring that same raw, independent energy to your university event.

Fun Fact: Did you know that some of Manchester's most famous street art is located in 'Hidden Lowry' spots? The city holds an annual street art festival (Cities of Hope) that has turned entire tower blocks into canvases! 🐝
