Do students need to have prior artistic experience to participate?

Graffiti is surprisingly accessible! While some students feel nervous about their drawing skills, our professional artists break down the process into simple, manageable steps. We start with basic can control and lettering before moving on to more complex techniques like 3D shading and highlights. By the end of the session, everyone—even those who haven't held a paintbrush since primary school—will have created something they’re genuinely proud of. It’s all about the experience!

How long does a typical university graffiti workshop last?

The typical university workshop lasts between 1.5 to 3 hours. This timeframe allows for a full 'intro to street art' session, including safety briefings, practice on plastic wrap or wood, and the final creation of a collaborative mural or individual canvases. If you have a tighter schedule for a specific campus event, we can adapt the pacing to fit your needs without losing any of the creative spark.

What materials are included in the workshop package?

We take care of everything! Your booking includes premium low-pressure spray cans (easier for beginners to control), over 50 different colours, protective overalls, gloves, and high-quality FFP2 masks to ensure everyone breathes easy. We also provide the 'canvas'—whether that’s a temporary wall we build on campus or individual boards for students to take home. You just need to bring your enthusiasm and wear old clothes!

Is the spray paint safe to use on a university campus?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. We provide professional-grade respiratory masks and protective gear for every participant. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated outdoor areas or high-ceilinged indoor spaces specifically vetted for safety. Our artists are experienced in managing groups and ensure that spray cans are used responsibly. We want the only 'danger' to be how much fun you're having while painting!

Can the workshop be held directly on our university campus?

We are very flexible with locations! If your university allows it, we can set up temporary 'cellograff' walls (plastic wrap between pillars) or use mobile wooden panels right on the quad or campus square. If on-campus space is limited, we have access to several legal graffiti zones and cool industrial spots around Rotterdam that provide the perfect gritty, authentic backdrop for a street art session.

What is your payment policy and what if we need to cancel?

One of the best things about Graffitifun is our 'no-risk' booking policy. We understand that university budgets and event planning can be fluid, so we don't require upfront payments. You can settle the balance after the workshop has successfully taken place. Plus, we always have backup artists on standby, so you never have to worry about a last-minute cancellation ruining your society's big event.

Do you offer these workshops in other Dutch cities besides Rotterdam?

While we love the vibe in Rotterdam, we cover the entire Netherlands! If you’re part of a multi-campus university or have friends at other unis, we also host workshops in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven. Wherever your student association is based, our team can bring the spray cans and creativity to you. Just let us know where the party is starting!

The experience

Why choose graffiti for your next university social? Aside from it being the coolest thing you'll do all semester, it’s the ultimate way to break the ice and get everyone talking. Here’s why it works:

Ultimate Icebreaker: Forget awkward mixers! Nothing bonds a group of students faster than learning a new skill and getting a bit of paint on their hands. 🤝
Stress Reliever: Mid-terms got you down? Spraying a wall is incredibly therapeutic and a great way to clear the mind. 🧠
Social Media Gold: Let's be real—the photos look amazing. Your society's Instagram will thank you for the vibrant, action-packed content. 📸
No Talent Required: You don't need to be an Arts major. Our pros guide you every step of the way, ensuring everyone leaves with a win. 🏆
Flexible & Mobile: We can come to your campus square or meet you at a legal Rotterdam graffiti spot—we bring the party to you! 🚛
Budget Friendly: We offer tiered pricing to ensure even smaller student clubs can get in on the action without breaking the bank. 💰

Step by step

Concept and brainstorming: We kick things off with a quick intro to graffiti culture and help your group come up with a killer design or theme that represents your uni or society.
The safety briefing: Your artist will show you how to use the gear correctly, from fitting your mask to the proper way to hold a spray can for maximum control.
Mastering the lines: Students start by practicing basic lines, dots, and 'fading' techniques on a practice wall to get a feel for the pressure and distance.
Sketching the outline: Once you're comfortable, we start sketching the 'bones' of the mural or your individual piece using light-coloured paint.
Filling in the colour: This is where the magic happens! We'll teach you how to fill large areas smoothly and how to blend colours for that classic street art look.
The 'cut-back' and details: You'll learn the secret to sharp graphics—using the background colour to 'cut back' into your letters for crisp, professional edges.
Final outlines and highlights: We add those final 3D shadows and bright highlights that make the artwork pop off the wall and look Instagram-ready.
Group photo and wrap-up: We finish with a massive group photo in front of your masterpiece. It's the perfect momento for your society's social media pages!

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Rotterdam is arguably the street art capital of the Netherlands. From the massive murals in the Hofbogen to the legendary legal walls at De Blaak, the city is a living gallery. When you host a university graffiti workshop here, you're tapping into a deep-rooted local culture of 'can-do' (pun intended!) attitude. We often draw inspiration from the city's bold architecture and the gritty, industrial spirit of the port. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know Rotterdam host the "Rewriters" project? They've turned entire neighbourhoods into open-air museums! Our workshops often reference these local legends to help you find your own Rotterdam style.

Whether we're setting up near the Erasmus University campus or heading to an industrial spot in Delfshaven, the Rotterdam wind and the city skyline provide the perfect atmosphere for an afternoon of spraying. Our artists are locals who know the best spots and the coolest styles currently hitting the streets of 'Roffa'. 🔥
