Do we need any prior art experience to participate?

Absolutely! Most university students and faculty members who join our Nelspruit workshops have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists start with the basics, from how to hold the can to mastering pressure control. We provide a safe, encouraging environment where 'mistakes' are just part of the creative process. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll go from a blank wall to a finished masterpiece.

Is the graffiti workshop safe and what gear is provided?

Safety is our top priority at Graffitifun. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and disposable overalls to keep your clothes clean. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated outdoor areas or large indoor spaces with proper airflow. Our instructors are trained to manage groups safely, ensuring everyone enjoys the creative process without any health risks. It is all about having fun while staying protected!

How long does a typical workshop session last?

A standard university workshop in Mbombela typically lasts between 2 to 3 hours. This includes an introduction to street art history, demonstration of techniques, individual practice sessions, and the final group project. We can also adjust the timing to fit into a specific campus event slot or a shorter 'express' session for busy student festivals if your schedule requires it.

What is the minimum and maximum group size for a university event?

We are extremely flexible! Whether you are a small student committee of 10 people or a massive campus-wide orientation event for 200+ students, we have the staff and equipment to handle it. For larger groups, we bring in additional backup artists to ensure everyone gets personal attention and enough 'can-time'. No group is too big or too small for a creative takeover.

What happens if it rains on the day of our outdoor event?

Nelspruit's weather can be unpredictable, but we always have a plan B! We can set up our mobile graffiti walls in covered areas, sports halls, or even large tents. If the weather looks truly impossible, we have a network of backup artists and flexible scheduling to ensure your event goes ahead. Plus, with our 'pay after the workshop' policy, you have extra peace of mind.

Can we choose the location on campus for the workshop?

While we love the raw energy of street art, we strictly follow local regulations. We only paint on our own mobile wooden walls, legal graffiti zones, or designated campus areas with prior permission. This ensures the university stays clean and green while the students get to express themselves legally. We teach the difference between vandalism and street art as part of our educational mission.

Can we customize the graffiti theme to match our society or faculty?

Definitely! University groups often want to paint a specific theme, such as a faculty logo, a social justice message, or a campus slogan. Our artists will work with your committee beforehand to sketch out a concept that aligns with your goals. We provide all the specialized caps and a wide spectrum of spray paint colours to bring your specific vision to life on the wall.

Concept Brainstorming: Your group works with our artists to decide on a theme, words, or logos that represent your university society or event.
The Basics of the Can: Learn the 'anatomy' of a spray can, from choosing the right 'cap' (nozzle) to controlling the spray distance for different effects.
Practice Lines & Tags: Everyone gets their own space to practice basic strokes, dots, and their personal graffiti tag to get a feel for the medium.
Lettering & 3D Effects: Our pros teach you how to turn flat letters into 3D masterpieces using shadows, highlights, and outlines. 💥
The Main Production: The group moves to the large-scale wall to start filling in the main design under the guidance of our lead artist.
Cutting & Detail Work: This is where the magic happens! We use 'cutting' techniques to sharpen lines and add those professional finishing touches.
Photo Ops & Wrap-up: We finish with a professional group photo in front of your finished mural—perfect for the university's social media pages! 📸

Creative collaboration during a graffiti company outing

Local culture

Nelspruit, or Mbombela, might be the gateway to the Kruger, but it’s also a breeding ground for incredible local talent. From the bustling streets near Promenade Shopping Centre to the creative corners of the university campus, the Lowveld has a unique vibe that blends urban energy with nature. Street art in Nelspruit is growing, and we love bringing that 'big city' JHB or Cape Town flair to the 013 area. Our workshops reflect the heat and vibrancy of the city—bright colours, bold shapes, and a whole lot of 'lekker' energy.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the word "Mbombela" literally means "many people in a small space"? That’s exactly the kind of collaborative, community spirit we bring to our group graffiti murals! 🇿🇦
