Do the students need any previous art experience?

No experience is needed at all! Our professional artists specialize in teaching primary school children who have never touched a spray can before. We start with the basics of safety and nozzle control, ensuring every student feels confident and capable. By the end of the workshop, even the shyest kids are usually beaming with pride at what they've created. It's all about discovery and having a go!

Is it safe for primary school children to use spray paint?

Safety is our absolute number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and overalls for every child. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated areas or outdoors. The spray paints we use are professional grade but handled under strict supervision. Our artists are experienced in managing groups of children and ensure that the 'safety first' rule is followed from start to finish.

What should the kids wear on the day of the workshop?

While we provide protective suits, we always recommend that students wear 'play clothes' that parents don't mind getting a bit of paint on. Graffiti is a hands-on, messy business! Comfortable shoes are also a must. We handle the rest, providing all the specialized gear needed to keep the kids as clean and protected as possible while they unleash their inner Banksy.

How long does a typical school workshop session last?

A standard primary school workshop in Turku usually lasts between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. This gives us enough time for a solid introduction, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the final creation of a group mural or individual canvases. We can adjust the duration to fit your school’s timetable or specific lesson blocks if needed.

Where do the workshops take place in Turku?

We are very flexible! We can host the workshops at your school grounds (outdoors is best), or we can help arrange a suitable local spot in Turku. If your school has a specific wall they'd like decorated (with permission!), we can make that the focus. Otherwise, we bring large mobile wooden boards or canvases so the art can be displayed anywhere.

Can the workshop be linked to the school curriculum?

Absolutely. Graffiti is a fantastic way to teach children about the thin line between vandalism and street art, the importance of respect for public property, and how to express opinions through art. We often include a brief talk about the history of the movement and the 'rules' of the street, helping students understand the cultural context of their creativity.

What is the ideal group size for a school workshop?

We find that groups of 15 to 30 students work best to ensure everyone gets enough individual attention from our artist. However, for larger year groups, we can easily send multiple artists or run back-to-back sessions. Just let us know your numbers, and we will create a schedule that ensures every child gets a high-quality, hands-on experience.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your primary school? It’s more than just painting; it's a transformative educational experience that boosts confidence and encourages collaboration. Here is why schools in Turku love working with us:

Boosts Confidence: Kids see immediate, large-scale results, giving them a massive sense of achievement. 🏆
Inclusivity: Street art doesn't require "traditional" drawing skills, making it accessible for children of all abilities.
Teamwork: Many of our workshops involve creating a joint mural where every student's contribution is vital. 🤝
Professional Guidance: Our artists aren't just talented; they are great with kids and know how to keep them engaged.
Cultural Awareness: We teach the difference between art and vandalism, fostering respect for the community. 🌍
Zero Stress for Teachers: We bring everything, set up, and clean up. You just bring the students!

Step by step

The Arrival & Set-up: Our professional artists arrive at your Turku location early to set up the 'graffiti zone' with boards, paints, and all safety gear.
Safety Brief & Gear Up: We fit every student with masks, gloves, and suits. A quick talk explains how to use the equipment safely and respectfully.
Mastering the Can: Students learn the 'anatomy' of a spray can, including how different caps (nozzles) change the thickness and flow of the paint.
First Tags & Lines: Kids practice basic movements on a practice surface—learning how to make dots, lines, and simple shapes without drips!
Concept & Design: The group discusses a theme (like 'Environment' or 'Our School') and sketches out their ideas on paper first.
Filling the Colors: Time to go big! Students start filling in the large shapes of the mural, learning how to blend colours and create gradients.
Outlining & Detailing: The artists guide the kids in adding sharp outlines and 'highlights' to make their artwork pop and look professional.
The Big Reveal: We step back, take off the masks, and admire the collective masterpiece created by the class.
Clean-up & Wrap-up: We handle all the messy bits, leaving your school grounds tidy and the students buzzing with creative energy.

Local culture

Turku, Finland's oldest city, is a fascinating blend of medieval history and cutting-edge creativity. While the Aura River flows peacefully through the centre, the city's walls tell a more modern story. Turku has a growing appreciation for street art, with stunning murals tucked away in the University district and near the railway station. By bringing a graffiti workshop to your primary school, you are connecting your students with this evolving urban culture 🏰.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Turku is home to several 'legal walls' where artists are encouraged to paint freely? It’s a city that understands the power of public art to bring communities together! ✨

Our workshops respect the local environment while encouraging kids to think about how they can contribute to the beauty of their own neighbourhoods in Espoo, Helsinki, or right here in the heart of Turku. Let's show the next generation that "The Paris of Finland" is just as much about modern spray paint as it is about historic cathedrals.
