How long does the art teacher training session last?

Our professional development workshops typically run for 2 to 3 hours, but we can extend this for deep-dive sessions. We start with the basics of spray paint control and safety, then move into advanced techniques like 3D lettering and shading. The goal is to ensure you feel confident enough to lead your own mini-session with students back at your school or studio by the time we finish.

Do I need to bring my own spray cans and safety gear?

Absolutely! We provide all the gear, including high-quality spray cans with various nozzles, protective suits, gloves, and masks. We also provide professional-grade canvases or boards for you to work on. You don't need to bring a thing except your enthusiasm. We want the experience to be as stress-free as possible so you can focus entirely on your creative growth.

How will this training benefit my students in Turku?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for reaching students who might otherwise feel disconnected from traditional art forms. It encourages self-expression and builds confidence through large-scale work. By learning these skills, you can introduce a contemporary, urban curriculum that resonates with modern youth culture. It’s also a great way to talk about the history of art, public spaces, and the evolution of visual communication.

Is this different from a regular graffiti workshop?

Unlike a standard hobby class, our teacher training focuses on the pedagogy of street art. We teach you how to explain the techniques to beginners, how to manage a classroom full of spray cans safely, and how to structure a lesson from sketch to final mural. It’s about giving you the tools to teach, not just the skills to paint. Plus, we share professional tips on murals!

Where does the teacher training take place?

We are very flexible with locations in Turku! We can host the training at one of our dedicated outdoor graffiti walls, or we can come to your school if you have a suitable outdoor space. Safety and ventilation are our top priorities, so we always ensure the environment is appropriate for the activity. We even have indoor options using water-based, low-odour paints if required.

What if I have never used a spray can before?

No previous experience is needed! Whether you’re a seasoned fine arts teacher or a complete beginner to the world of spray paint, our artists will meet you at your current skill level. We’ve trained teachers who have never touched a spray can before and helped them create stunning pieces by the end of the day. It’s all about the process and having fun while learning.

Introduction to Street Culture: We start with a brief history of graffiti and how it evolved into the global street art movement we see today in cities like Turku.
Gear and Safety Briefing: Safety first! You’ll learn about the different types of caps (nozzles), paint brands, and how to use protective equipment correctly in a classroom setting.
Mastering the Can: Our artists demonstrate how to control pressure, distance, and speed to create clean lines, dots, and smooth fills.
Lettering and Design: We dive into 'piece' design, focusing on font structures, 3D effects, and how to help students develop their own unique 'tag' or style.
Curing the Creative Block: Learn specific exercises and games you can use with students to spark their imagination and get them sketching without fear.
Collaborative Mural Work: You’ll work together on a large-scale project to experience the dynamics of group mural painting and how to manage multiple artists on one wall.

Local culture

Turku has a fascinating relationship with street art, blending its medieval roots with a modern, edgy vibe. From the legal graffiti walls at the Port of Turku to the hidden gems in the student districts, the city is a canvas waiting to be explored. We love drawing inspiration from the Aura River's atmosphere and the local Finnish 'Sisu'—that unique grit and determination—which we channel into every spray stroke. 🇫🇮

Fun Fact: Did you know that Turku is home to some of the most impressive large-scale murals in Finland, often hidden in plain sight on residential buildings? It’s the perfect city to inspire your next big school art project!

Pricing

Our teacher training sessions are competitively priced to fit school and departmental budgets. We believe in transparency and providing the best value for Turku's educational community.

Because every school has different needs, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all price. Whether you want a quick intro or a full-day masterclass, we’ll build a package that works for you. ✨
