The experience

Why choose a graffiti experience for your learners? It’s more than just painting walls—it’s about confidence, teamwork, and finding a voice. Here’s why Cape Town schools love us:

  • Epic engagement: Even the most "too cool for school" teens get hooked once they feel the hum of a spray can in their hand! ⚡
  • Curriculum friendly: We can tailor the session to cover themes like social justice, identity, or specific Art & Design techniques.
  • Stress relief: Designing a large-scale mural is a fantastic way for students to de-compress and express themselves outside a desk. 🧘‍♂️
  • Pro-artist Mentors: Our artists are legends in the local scene and provide positive role models for creative careers.
  • Zero risk: With our "pay after the workshop" policy and backup artists, you can book with total peace of mind. ✅

Step by step

  1. The intro & history: We kick things off with a high-energy look at the history of graffiti, from NYC subways to the streets of Woodstock and District Six.
  2. Safety first: Students suit up in protective gear and learn how to handle the spray cans and nozzles safely.
  3. Tagging techniques: Our pro artists demonstrate 'the tag'—the foundation of all graffiti. Students practice their handstyle on paper first.
  4. Sketching the masterpiece: Students work in groups or individually to sketch out their "piece" (short for masterpiece), focusing on letter structure and 3D effects.
  5. Can control: We move to the walls! Students learn how to control pressure, distance, and speed to create clean lines and smooth fills.
  6. Filling & fading: This is the fun part! Students learn how to blend colours and create those iconic graffiti gradients and fades.
  7. The outline: The moment of truth! We teach the students how to 'cut' their lines to make their artwork pop off the wall.
  8. Highlights & details: We add the finishing touches—shines, 'forcefields', and character details that bring the whole mural to life.
  9. The big reveal: We take a group photo with the finished work! It's a massive confidence boost and a great memory for the class.

Local culture

Street art in Cape Town

Cape Town is a global hub for street art, with world-class murals decorating the walls of Salt River, Woodstock, and the CBD. Our workshops tap into this local heritage, drawing inspiration from iconic local artists who use the city as their canvas. We don't just teach art; we connect students to the visual language of their own city, from the historic murals of District Six to the modern masterpieces of the International Public Art Festival (IPAF).

Fun Fact: Cape Town is home to some of the tallest street art murals in Africa! Many of these works carry powerful messages about conservation and social justice, showing students that art can be a tool for real change in the Mother City. 🇿🇦
