Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Absolutely! We take safety very seriously. We provide all secondary school students with high-quality protective gear, including masks, gloves, and overalls. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated areas or outdoors. Our professional artists are trained to supervise groups and ensure every student uses the spray cans correctly and safely. Plus, we use low-odour, professional-grade paint to make the experience as comfortable as possible for everyone involved.

How long does a typical workshop last?

Most of our secondary school sessions in Chengdu last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives the students enough time to learn the basic techniques, practice their 'tagging' and 'piece' skills, and then collaborate on a final large-scale mural. We can adjust the timing to fit your specific school timetable or double-period slots. If you need a shorter 'taster' session or a full-day intensive art project, just let us know!

Do we come to you, or do you come to our school?

We are super flexible! We can bring the entire workshop to your school grounds in Chengdu, provided there is a suitable outdoor wall or we can set up our mobile wooden partitions. Alternatively, we can host your group at one of our inspiring street art locations across the city. Many schools prefer the convenience of us coming to them, as it saves on transport logistics and keeps the creative energy on campus.

Do students need to have any prior drawing or art skills?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels. Whether a student is a talented art scholar or has never picked up a paintbrush in their life, they will find success here. Our artists break down the process into simple, manageable steps. We focus on 'controlled accidents' and creative expression, ensuring that every student walks away feeling proud of what they’ve helped create on the canvas.

Can we choose a specific theme for our workshop?

Yes, we do! While we love for students to explore their own styles, we can easily incorporate specific themes into the session. Whether you want the mural to reflect school values, local Chengdu culture, environmental themes, or a specific curriculum topic like history or social studies, our artists can help guide the design process to ensure the final artwork is both meaningful and visually stunning.

What should students wear on the day?

We suggest students wear old clothes and comfortable shoes that they don't mind getting a bit of paint on. Even though we provide protective overalls and gloves, graffiti art can get a little messy when the creativity starts flowing! Dress for the weather too, as most of our sessions take place outdoors or in semi-covered areas to ensure proper ventilation for the spray cans.

How do we book and what are the costs?

Booking is simple! Since every school group has different needs, we don't have a one-size-fits-all price. Factors like student numbers, location, and the amount of materials needed play a role. Head over to our contact page or use our online Cost Calculator to get an instant estimate. Once you're ready, we'll lock in the date and our artists will start prepping for your epic Chengdu street art adventure.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your students in Chengdu? Beyond the obvious fun, street art is a powerful pedagogical tool that engages even the most "too cool for school" pupils. Here’s why it works:

Empowerment through Art: Students see immediate, large-scale results, boosting their self-esteem and creative confidence instantly. 🚀
Zero Barrier to Entry: You don't need to be a "classic" artist to be great at graffiti; it levels the playing field for all students.
Collaborative Spirit: Designing a mural requires communication, compromise, and collective effort—perfect for class bonding! 🤝
Professional Guidance: Learn from real-world artists who share the history and ethics of the culture, not just the techniques.
Total Safety: We provide top-tier protective gear and use professional techniques to ensure a mess-free (where it counts!) experience. 🛡️
Unique School Legacy: Create a permanent piece of art that students can walk past every day and say, "I did that!"

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: We kick things off with a high-energy intro to street art culture and a vital safety briefing on how to use our professional gear.
Mastering the Can: Students learn the 'anatomy' of a spray can, discovering how different caps and finger pressure change the lines they create.
The Art of the Tag: We dive into basic lettering styles, helping students develop their own unique signature or 'tag' in a controlled, artistic way.
Sketching the Vision: Working in small teams, students sketch out their ideas on paper, planning the layout and colour schemes for the main mural.
First Outlines: Time to hit the wall! Students start by sketching their designs using light pressure to get the proportions just right.
Filling & Fading: This is where the magic happens. We teach students how to blend colours and create cool ombre effects inside their letters.
The 'Power-Line': Our artists show the group how to add a bold outline (a 'power-line') and highlights to make their artwork pop off the surface.
Final Details: Students add textures, patterns, and background elements to tie the whole collaborative piece together.
The Big Reveal: We finish with a group photo session in front of the completed masterpiece—a moment of pure pride for the whole class!

Good to know

Duration: Typically 1.5 to 3 hours, but we can customise this to fit your school timetable perfectly.

Group Size: We cater to everything from small art clubs of 10 to full year-groups of 100+ students (with extra artists to help!).

Included: Professional spray cans (low-odour), caps, masks, gloves, overalls, and high-quality canvases or mobile walls.

Safety first: Our team is fully insured and we use non-toxic paints. We provide a full risk assessment for every school visit.

Peace of mind: No upfront payment is required, and we always have backup artists on standby to ensure your event goes ahead no matter what! 💪

Local culture

Chengdu isn't just the home of the giant panda—it’s also one of China’s most exciting hubs for underground art and hip-hop culture! From the colourful alleys near Sichuan University to the modern creative clusters popping up around the city, the "Land of Abundance" has a distinct street art vibe that blends traditional Sichuanese spirit with modern urban flair. We love tapping into this local energy during our workshops. Our local artists often draw inspiration from the city's relaxed 'tea house' pace mixed with its fast-moving futuristic skyline.

Fun Fact: Did you know Chengdu is home to a massive legal graffiti wall in the Poly Center area? It’s a place where local legends and newcomers alike share space, proving that the city truly embraces the creative voice of its youth! 🐼✨
