Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Safety is our top priority for secondary school groups in Xian. We provide high-quality protective gear, including FFP2/FFP3 masks to filter out fumes, disposable gloves, and protective suits to keep school uniforms clean. Our professional artists are fully trained in health and safety protocols and provide a thorough safety briefing before any spray cans are even touched. We also ensure that the workshop takes place in a well-ventilated area to maintain a safe environment for all students and staff.

Do students need to have prior art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for all skill levels, especially beginners. Our expert artists break down the process into easy, manageable steps—from learning how to hold the can and control pressure to mastering basic shapes and shading. We find that secondary school students in Xian often discover hidden talents they never knew they had! It’s all about experimentation, having a go, and enjoying the creative process rather than being a perfect artist from day one.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

Absolutely. We love it when schools have a specific theme or local Xian landmark they want to explore. Whether you want to focus on 'Unity', 'The Silk Road', 'Future Tech', or even a specific curriculum topic like environmental awareness, our artists will tailor the session to suit. We can design the final mural skeleton around your chosen concept, ensuring the workshop is not only fun but also educationally relevant and aligned with your school's goals for the term.

How long does a secondary school workshop typically last?

We’ve got you covered! While graffiti is traditionally an outdoor activity, we have plenty of 'Plan B' options. We can set up temporary walls and floor protection inside school halls or gymnasiums. Alternatively, we have backup dates available, or we can use our 'canvas' method where students work on smaller boards indoors. Because we have multiple backup artists available in the Xian area, we are very flexible with rescheduling or adapting the setup to ensure the fun doesn't stop.

How do we handle the booking and payment process?

A standard session usually runs between 1.5 to 3 hours. For secondary schools, we recommend a 2.5-hour slot. This gives students enough time to complete the introductory training, practice their techniques, and then collaborate on a large-scale final piece or their own individual canvases. We can also adapt the timing to fit into your school’s double-period blocks or a full-day 'Art Intensive' schedule if you want to dive deeper into street art history and mural design.

What should students wear for the workshop?

We make it as simple as possible for schools. You don't need to pay anything upfront; you can pay after the workshop is successfully completed. Once you request a quote, we’ll discuss your group size and requirements, then send over a formal proposal. Once confirmed, we handle everything from the kit through to the clean-up. This 'fun-first, pay-later' approach ensures you are 100% satisfied with the experience we deliver to your students in Xian before any funds are transferred.

Can we keep the artwork created during the session?

While we provide disposable protective suits, we always recommend that students wear 'old clothes' that they don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint on. Spray paint is permanent, and while the suits are great, sleeves or shoes can sometimes catch a stray mist of colour. We suggest comfortable footwear and clothes that allow for movement. It’s better to be safe and comfy while they’re busy becoming Xian’s next street art legends!

Are there options for other cities or types of events?

Yes, definitely! If students work on individual canvases, they can take them home that same day. If the group creates a large-scale mural on a temporary wall or wooden boards, the school can keep it to display in the hallways, common rooms, or the art department. It’s a fantastic way to brighten up the school environment and serves as a permanent reminder of the students' collaboration and creativity during their Graffitifun experience in Xian.

The experience

Why choose graffiti for your next secondary school activity in Xian? It’s more than just paint on a wall—it’s a powerful educational tool that breaks down barriers. Here’s why it’s a winner:

Total inclusivity: You don't need to be "good at drawing" to create something epic with a spray can! 🎤
Teamwork in action: Students have to communicate and coordinate to make a large mural look cohesive.
Stress relief: The physical nature of street art is a fantastic outlet for teenage energy and expression. ✨
Cultural relevance: It connects the classroom to modern urban culture and global art trends.
Confidence boost: Seeing a massive blank wall transformed by their own hands gives students a huge sense of achievement. 💪
Professional guidance: Our Xian-based artists are mentors who teach respect for public spaces and the "rules" of the street.

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: Our professional artist welcomes the class and dives into the history of street art, showing how it evolved from subculture to global art form.
Safe setup: Every student gets kitted out in protective gear (suits, masks, and gloves) while we explain the safety rules for using spray cans.
The first spray: Moving to the practice wall, students learn how to control the nozzle, manage pressure, and create their first lines and dots. 🎨
Mastering techniques: Kids level up with lessons on fading, outlines, 'cutting', and creating those classic graffiti 'drips' in a controlled way.
Sketching the mural: The group brainstorms a theme—perhaps something related to Xian's history—and the artist helps outline the master design.
Filling in: Students grab their cans and start adding vibrant colours to the main mural, learning how to layer paint for maximum impact.
The finishing touch: Highlighting and 'power outlines' are added to make the artwork pop off the wall. ✨
Clean-up & reveal: We tidy up all gear, leaving only the masterpiece behind for the school to admire.
Photos & celebration: A final group photo with the mural to celebrate the team's creative breakthrough! 🏆

Local culture

Xian is world-famous for its incredible City Walls, some of the oldest and best-preserved in the world. But beyond the grey stone of the Ming dynasty, there’s a growing underground art scene that’s bringing pops of modern colour to the city’s creative districts. By hosting a workshop here, you're connecting students to a global movement while standing in the heart of China’s historical soul.

Fun fact: Did you know that some of the earliest forms of "public writing" were found in the ancient calligraphy styles of the Tang Dynasty? Xian has been a city of marks and messages for over a thousand years—we’re just updating the tools from brushes to spray cans! 🖌️➡️💨

Our workshops foster a sense of local pride, perhaps by incorporating traditional Chinese patterns into modern 'Wildstyle' graffiti. It's the ultimate bridge between Xian’s glorious past and its vibrant future.
