Do students need any prior art experience to participate?

Most definitely! Our Jakarta workshops are designed specifically for beginners. Our pro artists start with a safety briefing and basic spraying techniques before moving on to letters and filling. We guide every student step-by-step, ensuring that by the end of the session, even those who claim they 'can't draw a straight line' walk away with a masterpiece they are genuinely proud of. It's all about built-in success!

Is the graffiti workshop safe for secondary school students?

Safety is our number one priority in Jakarta. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, disposable gloves, and protective suits to keep those school uniforms clean. We only use professional-grade spray paint in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially selected indoor spaces. Our instructors are highly experienced in managing large groups of teenagers, ensuring a controlled, respectful, and completely safe creative environment for everyone involved.

How long does a typical workshop session last?

Our standard secondary school workshops in Jakarta typically last between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a solid introduction, technique practice, and the creation of a final large-scale piece. However, we are totally flexible! If you have a specific school timetable to stick to, we can condense the energy into a 90-minute 'express' session or expand it into a full-day art takeover.

What materials are included in the workshop package?

We provide absolutely everything! This includes premium spray cans in a huge rainbow of colours, caps/nozzles, protective gear (suits, masks, gloves), and the 'canvas' (which could be plastic film, boards, or even a legal wall). We also bring the inspiration—sketches, examples, and plenty of energy. Your school just needs to provide the space and the students ready to get their hands dirty!

Where in Jakarta do the workshops take place?

We can come directly to your school premises in Jakarta! We often set up on sports fields, playgrounds, or in large halls using professional-grade mobile wall systems (cellophane stretches). If you'd prefer to get the students out of the classroom, we can also arrange for the workshop to take place at one of Jakarta’s legal street art spots for a truly authentic urban experience.

Do we need to pay in advance to book a workshop?

A huge benefit of Graffitifun is our 'no stress' booking policy. You don't need to pay anything upfront to secure your date. We believe in the quality of our workshops so much that you only pay after the event is completed and you're 100% satisfied. This makes the administrative process for Jakarta schools much easier and completely risk-free for your budget.

Can the workshop help with student team building?

Absolutely. Beyond the art, we focus on teamwork and communication. We often finish with a 'mural' project where students must collaborate to create a cohesive piece of art. It’s a fantastic way to break down social barriers, encourage peer-to-peer support, and build confidence in a non-traditional setting. It’s particularly effective for year groups that need a bit of a 'reset' or team-building boost.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your students in Jakarta? It’s more than just painting walls—it’s about unlocking potential in a way that traditional subjects often can’t. Here’s why it works:

Boosts confidence: Seeing a giant, colourful mural completed in just a few hours gives students an immediate sense of achievement. 💪
Inclusive art: Graffiti doesn't require "traditional" drawing skills, making it accessible to students who might feel discouraged in standard art classes.
Legal & Responsible: We teach the vital distinction between illegal vandalism and professional street art, promoting respect for the local Jakarta environment.
Curriculum links: Our sessions can be linked to Social Studies, Design Technology, or Visual Arts, offering a practical look at modern culture.
Stress relief: Let's be honest, being a teenager is tough! Spraying paint is a fantastic, cathartic outlet for self-expression. 🌈
Team Spirit: Large-scale murals require communication and planning, pulling students together towards a shared goal.

Step by step

Initial briefing: We kick off at your Jakarta school with a high-energy intro about graffiti history and the importance of legal street art. 🎨
Safety first: Every student gets kitted out in protective suits, masks, and gloves to ensure a clean and safe experience.
Mastering the can: Our pro artists demonstrate 'can control'—teaching students how to create thin lines, thick fades, and dots.
Sketching the vision: Students grab paper and markers to plan their tags or pieces, focusing on letter structure and flow. ✍️
First sprays: We move to the walls! Students start by outlining their designs under the watchful eye of our instructors.
Colour and fill: This is where the magic happens—learning how to blend colours and create vibrant 'fill-ins'.
The outline (The Power line): We teach the secret to making art pop: a clean, sharp final outline. 🔥
Adding highlights: Students add those final 'shines' and 3D effects that give their work a professional urban finish.
Group gallery: We wrap up with a photoshoot of the final work, celebrating the collective creativity of the class! 🏆

Local culture

Jakarta isn't just a bustling metropolis; it’s a living museum of urban expression. From the sprawling murals that line the busy streets of Kuningan to the underground creative hubs in Kemang, the city has a deep-rooted love for visual storytelling. Our workshops tap into this unique Jakarta spirit, encouraging students to look at their city through a lens of colour and community. In a city where traditional and modern art constantly collide, giving secondary students the tools to create their own street art feels incredibly relevant.

Fun Fact: Jakarta is home to some of Southeast Asia's most famous street art festivals, proving that graffiti here is a respected and powerful form of public dialogue! 🎤

We take that local passion and bring it into the school environment, showing students that art isn't just something you see in a gallery—it's something you live and breathe on the streets of Jakarta. We can even tailor designs to reflect local landmarks or school values!
