Do I need to be an expert artist to join this training?

No previous experience with spray paint is necessary! Our Popondetta training is designed to take you from a complete novice to a confident street art educator. We start with the absolute basics of can control and safety before moving into complex mural techniques. Our professional artists provide a supportive environment where you can experiment, make mistakes, and learn the 'graffiti language' at your own pace.

Is spray painting safe for a school environment?

Safety is our top priority, especially in a school setting. We provide high-quality masks, gloves, and protective suits for all participants. During the session, we teach you how to set up well-ventilated outdoor 'spray zones' and how to manage large groups of students safely. You'll leave the workshop with a comprehensive safety checklist that you can use for all your future classroom projects.

What materials do I need to bring?

We provide everything! Your booking includes all professional-grade spray cans, caps (nozzles), protective gear, and practice surfaces. We also provide digital resources and teaching templates you can take home. You just need to wear comfortable old clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little bit of paint on—graffiti can be a messy business!

How does graffiti art fit into the standard school curriculum?

While we focus on the art of the 21st century, the techniques we teach are highly adaptable. You will learn about color theory, composition, and scale, which are fundamental to all art forms. Many teachers find that graffiti techniques are excellent for engaging students who usually struggle with traditional fine arts, providing a gateway to broader art history and creative expression.

How long does the training typically last?

Most of our teacher training sessions in Popondetta last between 2 to 4 hours, depending on your goals. This timeframe allows for a solid mix of theory, safety briefings, and plenty of hands-on painting time. If you have a larger faculty group or want a more intensive masterclass, we can easily extend the session into a full-day professional development event.

Will we get to create a full-scale mural during the session?

Absolutely! We believe in 'learning by doing.' After mastering the basics, the group will collaborate on a large-scale project. This helps you understand the logistics of managing a collaborative mural, which is a popular project for schools. You'll experience exactly what your students will feel—the excitement of seeing a massive, colourful piece of art come to life through teamwork.

What is your payment and cancellation policy?

We offer total flexibility for our Popondetta educators. There is no upfront payment required to secure your date; you only pay after the workshop is completed. Our goal is to make professional development as stress-free as possible for schools and individual teachers. If your plans change, our backup artist system ensures that your training will go ahead as scheduled.

The Gear Gear-up: Learn about different types of spray cans, various 'caps' (nozzles) for different effects, and how to maintain your equipment.
Mastering Can Control: Get hands-on with basic strokes—dots, lines, and fades. This is where you build the muscle memory needed for clean art.
Lettering & Style Theory: We dive into the anatomy of graffiti letters, teaching you how to guide students through creating their own unique 'tags' and 'throw-ups'.
Colour Blending & Effects: Learn how to teach 'cutting' and 'fading' techniques to create vibrant, three-dimensional effects that pop off the wall.
Stencilling Techniques: A great entry point for younger students. We show you how to design and cut stencils for quick, impressive results.

Local culture

Popondetta, the gateway to the historic Kokoda Track, is a place of incredible resilience and natural beauty. In a town known for its lush surroundings and the dramatic silhouettes of Mount Lamington, bringing street art into the mix adds a fresh, contemporary layer to the local cultural scene. We love working with Popondetta’s educators because there’s a real hunger for new ways to express the local identity through art.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the area around Popondetta is home to the Queen Alexandra's Birdwing, the largest butterfly in the world? Its vibrant wings provide the perfect inspiration for the bold colour palettes we use in our graffiti workshops! 🦋

Whether you're teaching in a local primary school or a secondary college, we help you bridge the gap between traditional PNG motifs and modern aerosol techniques, creating a unique "Popondetta Style" that students will absolutely love.
