Do the kids need any previous art experience?

Absolutely! Our youth projects are designed specifically for beginners. Our professional artists start with the absolute basics, from how to hold a spray can to mastering simple lines and shapes. We provide a safe, supportive environment where young people can experiment without the fear of making mistakes. It's all about building confidence and having a great time while learning a brand-new creative skill.

Is the spray paint safe for teenagers to use?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, protective gloves, and overall suits to keep everyone clean and safe. Our waxes and paints are industry standard, and our instructors are trained to manage groups safely. We also ensure the workshop takes place in a well-ventilated outdoor or semi-outdoor area to ensure constant fresh air circulation throughout the creative process.

How long does a typical youth workshop last?

A standard youth project workshop in Popondetta usually lasts between 2 to 3 hours. This timeframe is perfect because it allows enough time for the introductory safety briefing, technique practice, and the final creation of a large-scale masterpiece. We find this duration keeps energy levels high and engagement peaked from start to finish without anyone getting overtied.

What materials do we need to provide?

Everything is included! Graffitifun provides all the professional spray paint cans in a huge variety of vibrant colours, protective gear (suits, gloves, masks), and the 'canvas' (whether that's a mobile wall, boards, or a designated community space). You just need to show up in comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of dust on. We handle all the prep and cleanup.

What is the ideal group size for a youth project?

We are very flexible! While we often work with groups of 10 to 25 young people to ensure everyone gets enough individual attention from our artists, we can cater to much larger groups by bringing in additional backup artists. Whether it's a small community club or a large school year group, we scale our team to match your needs so no one misses out on the fun.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

Rain happens, but it won't stop the art! If the weather looks bad for an outdoor session in Popondetta, we can usually move the workshop to a covered area or use large pop-up tents. Because we have a wide network of backup artists and flexible scheduling, we can often rearrange the timing slightly to catch a dry spell or find a suitable indoor alternative that is well-ventilated.

What are the benefits of graffiti for young people?

Graffiti is a fantastic tool for youth development. It teaches patience, planning, and spatial awareness while providing a powerful outlet for self-expression. Working on a large-scale mural also builds teamwork and communication skills. Seeing a project go from a blank wall to a colourful masterpiece gives young people a massive sense of pride and accomplishment that carries over into other areas of their lives.

The experience

Why choose our graffiti workshops for your next youth initiative in Popondetta? Because we don't just teach art—we build community and inspire confidence. Here’s why our programme stands out:

Pro artist mentors: Work side-by-side with passionate artists who treat every participant with respect and encouragement. 🎤
Total creative freedom: We give the youth a voice, allowing them to choose their colours and contribute to the design.
Skills for life: From teamwork to creative problem solving, the lessons learned at the wall last long after the paint dries. 💪
Zero hassle for you: We bring everything! No need to worry about buying expensive supplies or cleaning up the mess.
Safe & professional: We use high-quality safety gear and ensure a positive, drug-and-alcohol-free environment. ✨
Lasting impact: A vibrant mural serves as a permanent reminder of what the young people of Popondetta can achieve together.

Step by step

Introduction & safety talk: We start by meeting the group and explaining how to use the equipment safely, including the proper way to wear masks and gloves. ✨
Can control basics: Our pros demonstrate how to hold the spray can, how to control pressure, and how different nozzles (caps) create different line widths.
Sketching the vision: The youth group helps brainstorm a theme or 'tag' for the day, sketching out the rough layout together on the practice surface. 🔥
First lines: Everyone gets a chance to practice 'filling' and 'layering' colours on their own section of the wall to get a feel for the paint.
The big masterpiece: Now the real work begins! The group works collectively on a large-scale mural, combining their new skills to create something epic.
Adding the details: Under the guidance of our artists, the participants add highlights, shadows, and 'cuts' to make their artwork pop. 🎨
The final reveal & photos: We step back to admire the finished work. This is the perfect time for group photos and celebrating the creative achievement! 📸
Cleanup & debrief: We pack up the gear, leaving the site tidy, while the group discusses what they learned and how they felt about the process. 🏆

Local culture

Popondetta, the heart of the Oro Province, is a place of incredible resilience and vibrant spirit. From the bustling markets to the proximity of the historic Kokoda Track, there is a deep sense of community here that we love to tap into. While traditional art forms are a pride of the region, introducing modern street art through our graffiti youth projects offers a fresh way for the younger generation to connect their heritage with global urban culture. 🌴

Fun Fact: Did you know that the Oro Province is famous for its intricate Tapa cloth designs? We often encourage our workshop participants in Popondetta to incorporate these traditional patterns into their graffiti murals, creating a stunning mix of ancient culture and modern street style! 🎭

We love working in this part of Papua New Guinea, seeing how the bright colours of our spray cans match the natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Our artists are dedicated to fostering a positive creative outlet right here in your backyard.
