Is there a minimum age for the youth graffiti workshop?

We recommend a minimum age of 8 for our youth projects in Trujillo. At this age, kids have the dexterity to control the spray cans safely and effectively. For younger groups, we can adapt the session using water-based paint markers or stencils to ensure everyone stays safe while having a blast. Safety gear like gloves and masks are always provided regardless of age!

Do the participants need any prior art experience?

Absolutely not! Most of the young people we work with have never touched a spray can before. Our professional artists are experts at breaking down complex techniques into simple, easy-to-follow steps. We start with basic lines and shapes before moving on to 'pieces'. By the end of the session, even the most hesitant participants will have created something they are proud of.

How do you ensure the safety of the teenagers during the workshop?

Safety is our top priority. We provide high-quality FFP2 masks, protective gloves, and disposable overalls to keep clothes clean. Our workshops take place in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially set up indoor spaces. Our artists are also trained in group management to ensure that the spray cans are used responsibly and only on the designated surfaces.

Where in Trujillo do these youth projects take place?

We are quite flexible! We can host the project at a local community centre, a school playground, or one of Trujillo’s legal street art zones. If you don't have a location in mind, we can help scout a suitable spot. We can paint on mobile wooden panels, large canvases, or even a permanent wall if you have the necessary permissions.

How long does a typical graffiti session last?

A standard youth project session typically lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a safety briefing, a demonstration of techniques, individual practice, and the creation of a final group masterpiece. For larger community initiatives, we can also spread the project over multiple days to create more intricate murals and deeper engagement.

Do we need to pay anything before the workshop starts?

Nope! At Graffitifun, we believe in stress-free booking. You don't have to pay a penny upfront. We want you to be 100% confident in our service, so you only pay after the workshop has been successfully completed. This makes it much easier for youth leaders and community organisers to manage their budgets without financial risk.

What happens if the weather doesn't play ball on the day?

Rain is rare in the 'City of Everlasting Spring', but we always have a plan B. We have backup artists available to reschedule if needed, or we can move the project to a covered outdoor area. Since we use professional-grade paint, it dries quickly, but we always monitor the weather to ensure the best possible conditions for your creative experience.

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your next youth initiative? It’s more than just messing around with paint; it’s a powerful tool for personal growth and community spirit. Here’s why we love doing what we do in Trujillo:

Boosts Confidence: Seeing a giant mural they’ve helped create gives young people a massive sense of accomplishment. 💪
Promotes Teamwork: You can't paint a big wall alone! Our projects require communication, planning, and supporting each other.
Stress Relief: There is something incredibly therapeutic about the 'hiss' of a spray can and the flow of colour. 🎨
Safe Space for Expression: We provide a legal, constructive outlet for teenagers to express their identity and ideas.
Professional Mentorship: Our artists aren't just painters; they are mentors who share their stories and passion for the craft.
Community Impact: Transform a neglected space into a local landmark that the whole neighbourhood can enjoy. 🔥

Step by step

Introduction & Safety: We start with a high-energy kick-off, introducing our pro artists and covering the essential safety rules for using spray paint.
Concept Brainstorming: The youth group works together to choose a theme or message for their mural, promoting teamwork and shared ownership.
The Tag Creator: Using our digital tools, participants can experiment with different styles and nicknames before picking up a real can.
Mastering the Can: Our artists demonstrate basic techniques like 'fading', 'outlining', and 'dotting' to build confidence.
Sketching the Mural: We help the group scale up their ideas onto the wall or panels, creating a professional-looking framework.
The Filling Phase: This is where the magic happens! Everyone grabs a can and starts bringing the design to life with vibrant colours.
Adding the Details: We teach the tricks of the trade—adding highlights, shadows, and sharp outlines to make the artwork pop.
The Big Reveal & Photos: Once the masterpiece is finished, we peel back the tape and take group photos to celebrate the achievement.
Clean Up & Feedback: We pack up all materials, leaving the site tidy, and ensure every participant feels like a total rockstar.

Good to know

Duration: Most youth projects run for 2-3 hours, but we can customise half-day or multi-day residencies.

Local culture

Trujillo is a city that naturally inspires. Known for its stunning colonial architecture and proximity to the ancient ruins of Chan Chan, there is a deep-rooted history of visual storytelling here. Modern-day Trujillo is seeing a massive surge in contemporary street art, with local 'muralistas' turning grey walls into vibrant tributes to Peruvian culture. When we bring our graffiti youth projects to Trujillo, we tap into this local energy, encouraging young people to see their city as a canvas for positive change.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the nearby Chan Chan is the largest adobe city in the world? Its ancient walls are covered in intricate carvings that were essentially the 'graffiti' of the Chimú culture hundreds of years ago!

By connecting the youth with today's street art scene, we help them bridge the gap between Trujillo's historical legacy and its bright, modern future. It’s more than just painting; it’s about cultural pride. ✨
