Step by step

  1. Warm-up & safety: We start with a quick intro and gear everyone up with masks and gloves.
  2. Sketching the vision: Kids grab paper and pencils to brainstorm their unique tag or character design.
  3. Can control 101: Our artists demonstrate how to hold the can, control pressure, and create different line widths.
  4. Practice run: Everyone head to the practice wall to get a feel for the spray and build confidence.
  5. Outline & fill: Time to move to the main piece! Students outline their designs and fill them with vibrant colours.
  6. Detailing & 3D: We teach how to add shadows, highlights, and outlines to make the art pop off the canvas.
  7. The final tag: Every artist signs their work with a custom tag they developed earlier in the session.
  8. Photo op & wrap-up: We take group photos with the finished masterpieces before safely packing them up for home.

Local culture

Street art in Wellington

Wellington is the heart of New Zealand's creative soul, and our street art scene reflects that eclectic "Welly" spirit. From the iconic murals lining Hannahs Laneway to the hidden gems in Te Aro, inspiration is everywhere you look in the capital. We draw on this local energy to show students that art isn't just for galleries—it's part of the city's pulse. Our workshops often reference the incredible public works seen around Cuba Street, helping kids connect their own creations to the urban landscape they walk through every day.

Fun Fact: Did you know Wellington has a dedicated "Graffiti Art Window" and legal walls where artists compete to showcase the most vibrant designs? It's one of the most street-art-friendly cities in the Southern Hemisphere! 🏆
