Looking to bring some vibrant energy and urban culture to your Wellington secondary school? Our graffiti workshops offer students a hands-on, high-octane creative experience that goes way beyond the traditional classroom. Led by New Zealand's top professional street artists, these sessions turn 'troublemakers' into 'trailblazers' by teaching the history, ethics, and technical skills of spray-can art. Whether you're based in the windy suburbs of Miramar or the heart of Te Aro, we bring the entire studio to your campus. It’s an inclusive, confidence-building activity that engages students of all backgrounds, allowing them to express their identity through bold colours and massive scales. It's time to swap the pencils for paint and let your students' imagination run wild on the 'Creative Capital's' canvas. Ready to make your mark? 🎨

Step by step

  1. Initial kōrero: Contact us to discuss your school's goals, group size, and preferred dates in Wellington.
  2. Design phase: Students can use our online Tag Creator to practice their styles and letterforms before the workshop.
  3. Safety first: We start the day with a briefing on gear usage, paint safety, and the 'rules of the street' regarding respect in art.
  4. Can control: Artists demonstrate basic techniques like 'fats' and 'skinnies' to help students get a feel for the spray can.
  5. Sketching: Students outline their concepts onto the boards or walls using light paint or chalk.
  6. The fill: This is where the colour happens! Students learn to blend and layer colours for maximum impact.
  7. The outline: We teach the 'power-line' technique to make the artwork pop and look professional.
  8. Highlights & details: Adding those final touches that bring the 3D effects to life.
  9. Photo op: A final group gallery walk and photos to celebrate the incredible work created!

Local culture

Street art in Wellington

Wellington isn't just the capital of New Zealand; it's the undisputed heart of the country's creative scene. From the iconic murals in Hannah's Laneway to the ever-evolving street art off Cuba Street, the 'Windy City' provides the ultimate backdrop for budding artists. We tap into this local 'Welly' vibe, encouraging students to draw inspiration from the city's rugged coastline and eclectic urban architecture. ✨

Fun Fact: Did you know Wellington has a dedicated 'Street Art Map'? Many of the world-class murals you see around the CBD were created by artists who started exactly where your students are—experimenting with their first can of paint! 🏆
