The experience

Why choose an anti-vandalism program for your next Auckland event? It’s more than just a painting lesson—it's a way to foster community pride and creative responsibility. Here’s why it works:

  • 🔥 Turn "noise" into art: We teach how to channel the urge to tag into structured, beautiful street art.
  • 🎨 Professional mentors: Learn directly from active Auckland artists who know the local scene inside out.
  • 🏆 Build confidence: There’s nothing like the buzz of seeing your own large-scale artwork come to life.
  • ✨ Hands-on education: We tackle the 'why' behind vandalism laws in a way that respects and engages the youth.
  • 💪 Stress relief: Spraying paint is an incredibly cathartic and rewarding physical activity.
  • 🎉 Guaranteed fun: We haven't met a group yet that didn't leave with a massive smile and a sense of achievement!

Step by step

  1. The kōrero: We start with an engaging talk about the difference between tagging (vandalism) and street art (authorized expression), emphasizing respect for Auckland's local architecture.
  2. Safety first: Get geared up in your protective suits, gloves, and masks while our pro artists walk you through the 'dos and don'ts' of using spray cans.
  3. Master the can: Learn how to handle the spray can, control the nozzle for thin or thick lines, and manage 'drips' like a seasoned pro.
  4. Sketching your ideas: Grab a marker and plan your design on your canvas or wall space, focusing on letters, shapes, and flow.
  5. First layers: Start filling in your shapes with your primary colours, learning how to blend and fade for that classic street art look.
  6. The outline: Watch your piece pop as you add sharp outlines to bring structure to your creation.
  7. Highlights and details: Add those final touches—shines, 'power-lines', and small details that make your artwork unique.
  8. The gallery walk: We wrap up by reviewing everyone's work, discussing the creative process, and reinforcing the message of positive community contribution.

Local culture

Street art in Auckland

Auckland has a rich history of street art, from the iconic murals in Karangahape Road to the hidden gems in the laneways of the CBD. However, we also know the frustration that unwanted tagging can cause for local businesses and residents. Our program bridges that gap, teaching participants to appreciate the artistry of local legends like Askew One while understanding the importance of protecting Auckland's unique heritage and public spaces. We often draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the Hauraki Gulf and the volcanic cones that define our skyline.

Fun Fact: Did you know Auckland is home to one of the largest street art festivals in the Southern Hemisphere? Art reaches every corner of our city, from the posh suburbs to the industrial heartlands!
