How long does a graffiti birthday workshop usually last?

Most Newcastle kids' birthday parties last between 1.5 to 2 hours. This provides the perfect balance of time to learn the techniques, practice on their own space, and complete a final masterpiece. We find this duration keeps the energy high and the kids fully engaged without them getting tired. We can adjust the timing slightly based on your specific party schedule and the age of the children.

Is it safe for children to use spray paint?

Safety is our top priority! We provide high-quality protective overalls, gloves, and specialized FFP3 masks to ensure the kids don't inhale any fumes. Our professional artists supervise the group at all times, teaching proper nozzle control and spray distance. Modern spray paint is much safer than it used to be, and by hosting the party outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces, we ensure a fun, hazard-free environment.

What is the minimum age for a graffiti party?

We recommend a minimum age of around 7 or 8 years old. At this age, children usually have the hand strength to press the spray nozzles and the focus to follow the artist's instructions. For younger groups, we simplify the techniques to ensure everyone has a blast. If you have a mixed-age group, our artists are great at adapting the session so every Geordie kid feels like a pro!

What should the kids wear to the workshop?

Comfort is key! While we provide protective gear like overalls, we always suggest the kids wear 'play clothes' and old trainers that you don't mind getting a little paint on. Even with suits, kids have a magical way of getting a splash of colour on their shoes! It adds to the authentic street art experience, but it’s best to leave the brand-new school shoes at home.

Where in Newcastle do the workshops take place?

We can host the party at several spots! We have access to amazing legal graffiti walls in Newcastle, or we can come to your garden if you have enough space and ventilation. If you've booked a community hall or a specific venue, just let us know. We are very flexible and can bring our mobile setup, including boards and plastic sheeting, to protect the surroundings from any overspray.

What happens if it rains on the day of the party?

Don't worry about the British weather! If there is light rain, we can often work under gazebos or move to a sheltered outdoor area. For heavy rain or storms, we usually look to move the party to a covered indoor location that is well-ventilated or reschedule to a better time. We always have a backup artist available, so we are committed to making your Geordie celebration happen!

Do the kids need any previous art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are designed for absolute beginners. Our Newcastle street artists start with the basics—how to hold the can, how to draw a line, and how to create cool effects. By the end of the session, children who have never touched a spray can before are always amazed at the professional-looking graffiti art they’ve created. It’s all about building confidence through creativity.

Local culture

Newcastle has a rich and evolving street art scene that goes far beyond the traditional galleries. From the stunning murals in Ouseburn to the legal walls where local legends hone their craft, the "Toon" is the perfect backdrop for a creative explosion. Our workshops tap into this local DIY spirit, giving Newcastle kids a chance to contribute to the city's artistic energy. We often draw inspiration from the iconic landmarks like the Tyne Bridge or the Angel of the North, showing the kids how to blend local pride with modern graffiti styles.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley is often called the city's cultural quarter? It's home to some of the most impressive large-scale murals in the North East, making it a huge inspiration for our young artists!
