What exactly is live painting and how does it work at an event?

Live painting is a dynamic performance where our artist creates a piece of street art from scratch right in front of your guests. Unlike a static mural, the 'show' is the process itself. For Newcastle events, we often incorporate local landmarks or brand colours into the design, providing both entertainment during the event and a stunning piece of art to keep afterward. It’s perfect for adding that 'wow' factor to any venue.

Is it safe to have spray painting happening indoors or near guests?

Safety is our top priority. We use low-odour, professional-grade spray paints and ensure proper ventilation at the venue. If your Newcastle venue is indoors with limited airflow, we can switch to high-quality acrylic markers or water-based paints that produce zero fumes. We also provide floor coverings and partitions to ensure the surrounding area stays completely clean and paint-free throughout the entire performance.

Can we choose what the artist paints or provide a specific theme?

Absolutely! We love it when the art reflects the vibe of the day. Whether you want your company logo, a specific theme, or 'Geordie' inspired imagery, our artists will work with you beforehand to sketch out a concept. On the day, you'll see those ideas come to life with professional flair and vibrant colours that match your event's aesthetic perfectly.

How long does a typical live painting performance last?

A standard live painting session in Newcastle usually lasts between 2 and 4 hours. This timeframe allows our artist to build up layers, add intricate details, and finish a high-impact piece without rushing. However, we are flexible! If you have a day-long festival or a short 90-minute product launch, we can adjust the complexity of the piece to fit your schedule perfectly.

What materials do you provide and what do we need to supply?

We bring everything! From the professional spray cans and markers to the canvases, boards, and protective drop-cloths. We even bring our own display easels or temporary walls if the venue doesn't have a suitable space. All we need from you is a flat area to work in and perhaps some upbeat music to keep the creative energy flowing. It's a completely hassle-free experience for organisers.

Do we get to keep the artwork after the event is over?

You certainly do! Once the paint is dry, the artwork is yours to keep. Many Newcastle businesses hang the completed canvas in their office lobby, while others auction it off for charity or give it away as a grand prize. It’s a lasting memento of a great night and a unique piece of custom decor that will spark conversations for years to come.

How far in advance should we book a live painting artist?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for weekend events or during the busy summer festival season in the North East. Ideally, aim for 4-8 weeks in advance. However, thanks to our fantastic team of backup artists, we can often accommodate last-minute requests. If you’ve got an event coming up soon in Newcastle, get in touch and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

The experience

Why settle for a DJ or a standard photo booth when you can have a living, breathing work of art created in real-time? Live painting is the ultimate ice-breaker and social media magnet. Here is why it works so well in Newcastle:

Stops people in their tracks: The sound of the cans and the smell of creativity (don't worry, we use low-odour ones!) draws a crowd instantly. 🔥
Social media gold: Guests love taking time-lapse videos and selfies with the evolving art, boosting your event's online reach.
Unique branding: We can weave your brand story or event theme into the artwork in a way that feels organic and cool.
Interactive experience: Our artists are friendly Geordies (or honorary ones!) who love chatting with guests about the process. 🎤
A lasting gift: You end the night with a professional piece of art that can decorate your Newcastle office or be given to a special guest.
No-stress setup: We handle everything from the tarpaulins to the final cleanup—you just enjoy the show! 💪

Step by step

Initial consultation: Reach out to us with your event date and venue in Newcastle. We’ll chat about your vision, the vibe of the crowd, and what you want to achieve.
Design & concept: Our artists create a digital sketch or mood board. Whether it's branding or abstract art, we make sure the plan fits your theme perfectly.
Logistics check: We coordinate with your venue manager regarding ventilation, floor protection, and space requirements to ensure a smooth, worry-free setup.
Artist arrival: On the day, our artist arrives early to set up the 'stage'—laying down protection and prepping the canvas while guests arrive.
The performance: The magic begins! As the music plays and the drinks flow, guests watch the artwork evolve from a blank surface to a masterpiece.
Guest interaction: Our artists aren't just painters; they're performers. They’ll chat with guests, explain their techniques, and maybe even let some folks add a small 'tag' if the vibe is right.
Final reveal: The artist adds the finishing touches and sharp outlines. This is the perfect moment for photos and social media tags!
Drying & cleanup: We ensure the art is safe to touch and leave your Newcastle venue exactly as we found it—clean and tidy.
Post-event delivery: We can help package the art for you to take home or arrange for it to be delivered to your office the following day.

Local culture

Newcastle has always been a city of grit, heart, and immense creativity. From the iconic murals in Ouseburn to the hidden technical pieces scattered around the city's alleyways, the "Toon" has a street art soul that rivals any major European capital. Our live painting performances tap into this local heritage, bringing that North East edge to your event. We love working in venues near the Tyne Bridge or in the creative hubs of Jesmond, ensuring our art reflects the vibrant, friendly, and bold character of the people who live here. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know that the Ouseburn Valley in Newcastle is often called the city's "Cradle of Culture"? It’s home to some of the most impressive legal graffiti walls in the UK, making it the perfect inspiration for our live painting sessions!

Pricing

Our Newcastle live painting services are as unique as your event, so pricing varies based on the duration of the performance and the materials required. Typically, costs work out between £25 and £55 per person for interactive sessions, or a flat artist fee for purely performance-based work.
