Is it safe for primary school children to use spray paint?

Safety is our number one priority! We provide high-quality respiratory masks, disposable gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our spray paints are water-based or low-solvent where possible, and we always conduct our primary school workshops in well-ventilated outdoor areas. Our instructors are professional artists who are experienced in managing large groups of children, ensuring a controlled, safe, and super-fun environment for everyone involved.

Do we need to provide any materials?

Absolutely! We bring everything needed for a successful creative day. This includes all the premium spray paint, various nozzle sizes, protective gear for every child, and the canvases or boards they will be working on. You don't need to worry about a thing; we even bring the drop cloths to keep your school grounds tidy. Just make sure the kids wear old clothes just in case!

How many students can participate at once?

We can accommodate groups of almost any size! For primary schools in Setúbal, we usually work with individual classes of 20-30 students at a time to ensure everyone gets enough hands-on guidance. If you have a larger year group, we can set up a rotation system or bring multiple artists to run parallel sessions, making sure no student is left out of the fun.

What happens if a student has never tried art before?

The workshop is designed to be very inclusive. We start with a cool introduction to street art history, followed by a safety briefing and a practice session on cardboard or plastic wrap. Once the kids feel comfortable, they move on to creating their own masterpieces. Our artists are there to help every step of the way, so even the most 'un-artistic' kids end up with something they are proud of.

What happens if it rains on the day of the workshop?

If the weather isn't looking great, we have plenty of backup plans! We can often move the workshop to a covered outdoor area or a very well-ventilated indoor space like a gym or hall. Because we have a large team of backup artists, we are very flexible with rescheduling if the forecast looks truly terrible. We always aim to make sure the workshop goes ahead safely.

How long does a typical session last?

A standard primary school workshop in Setúbal usually lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. This provides the perfect balance for young attention spans—enough time to learn the basics, practice some tags, and complete a final piece without getting tired. We can, of course, adapt the timing to fit into your specific school timetable or double-up for a full-day arts event.

Is the workshop educational as well as fun?

Our primary school workshops are tailored to be age-appropriate. We focus on the positive, creative side of street art—concept, colour, and community. We talk about the difference between illegal graffiti and street art, emphasizing respect for public property. It’s all about teaching them that art is a powerful tool for self-expression and making the world a brighter, more colourful place.

🎨 Professional Mentors: Our artists aren't just talented; they are amazing at connecting with kids and making art approachable.
🧼 Zero Stress for Teachers: We bring all the gear, set up the protection, and handle the cleanup ourselves.
🧠 Curriculum Friendly: We can tailor workshops to themes like 'The Environment,' 'Local History,' or 'Working Together.'
🎉 Pure Fun: It’s a high-energy day that gets kids away from screens and into the fresh air.
✅ Risk-Free Booking: No deposit required, and we have backup artists ready to go at a moment's notice.

Step by step

Intro and history: We kick things off with a high-energy talk about the history of graffiti and how it evolved into the street art we see today.
Safety first: Our team helps every student suit up in protective gear, including masks and gloves, while explaining the 'rules of the rails'.
The tag creator: Before picking up a can, students can use our online Tag Creator or paper sketches to plan out their unique artist name.
Nozzle knowledge: We teach the kids about 'caps' (nozzles) and how to control the pressure for different effects like thin lines or fat fills.
Practice run: Students start by practicing their technique on 'practice walls' to get a feel for the spray distance and movement.
The masterpiece: Under the guidance of our pros, the children begin work on their final canvases or a collaborative school mural.
Finishing touches: We help the students add highlights and outlines to make their artwork really pop and look professional.
Photo op: We finish with a big group photo in front of the colourful creations—a perfect memory for the school yearbook!

Local culture

Setúbal is a city with a rich maritime heritage, but it’s also a place where the streets are alive with modern expression! From the colourful murals near the port to the hidden gems in the old town, street art is part of the local DNA. We take inspiration from the city's blue waters and the vibrant atmosphere of the Mercado do Livramento to fuel our creativity during the workshops. Our local artists love bringing this urban energy directly to schools across the Sado estuary region.

Fun Fact: Did you know that Setúbal is home to some incredible large-scale murals that celebrate its fishing tradition? It’s the perfect backdrop for inspiring the next generation of Portuguese artists! 🐟 🎨
