What age groups can participate in the graffiti summer camp?

Our Hamilton summer camp workshops are designed for kids and teens aged 7 to 17. We group participants by age to ensure the teaching style and complexity of the art projects are just right. Whether they are primary schoolers or high school students, our instructors adapt the sessions so everyone feels confident and challenged. It is a fantastic way for different age groups to bond over a shared creative Goal!

Do the kids need any prior art experience?

Not at all! Our workshops are perfect for absolute beginners. Our professional street artists start with the basics, teaching everyone how to hold a spray can and create simple shapes before moving on to more complex techniques. If your child already has some artistic flair, we will help them level up their skills with advanced shading and 3D effects. Every skill level is welcome here in Hamilton!

Is it safe for children to use spray paint?

Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls to keep everyone safe and clean. We use low-odour, professional-grade spray paint and conduct all sessions in well-ventilated areas. Our instructors are experienced in managing groups of young people and keep a close watch to ensure all equipment is used correctly and safely throughout the day.

What should my child bring to the workshop?

We recommend that kids wear old clothes and comfortable sneakers that you don't mind getting a little bit of paint on. Even though we provide protective overalls, sometimes the excitement (and the paint!) can spread! We provide everything else, including premium spray cans, caps, safety gear, and canvases. Just bring a water bottle, some lunch, and plenty of creative energy!

What happens if it rains on the day?

Hamilton's weather can be a bit unpredictable, but the fun doesn't stop! We have access to sheltered outdoor spots and indoor venues where we can safely continue the workshop without the rain dampening our spirits. If the weather is really packing a sad, we have backup plans to ensure the creative process continues under cover, keeping the kids dry and the art flowing.

Can the participants take their artwork home?

Absolutely! One of the best parts of our Summer Camp creative sessions is that every participant gets to take home their own masterpiece. Usually, this is a high-quality canvas they have painted themselves during the workshop. It’s a great souvenir of their time in Hamilton and something they can proudly hang on their bedroom wall to show off their new street art skills!

How do I book a spot and when do I pay?

Booking is easy! You can use our online cost calculator to get an instant estimate for your group size in Hamilton. Once you're happy with the estimate, send us a request for a custom quote. We don't require any upfront payment—you only pay after the workshop is completed. We also have backup artists ready to go, so you never have to worry about a cancellation!

Boost Confidence: Seeing a massive piece come to life from a small sketch gives kids a huge sense of achievement.
Expert Mentors: Our artists aren't just talented; they're great at connecting with young people and fostering a positive vibe. 🎤

Step by step

Intro and safety briefing: We kick things off with a warm welcome and a quick rundown on how to use the gear safely.
Learning the tools: Kids get to know the spray cans, different 'caps' for varied line widths, and how to control the flow.
Sketching the vision: Before hitting the wall or canvas, we brainstorm ideas and sketch out designs on paper.
Mastering techniques: Our pros demonstrate fading, outlining, and filling techniques that make street art pop.
The first spray: Under guided supervision, the students start applying their base colours to their projects.
Adding the details: This is where the magic happens! We add shadows, highlights, and those crisp 'fat' outlines.
Personalising the tag: Every artist needs a signature. We help the kids develop their own unique graffiti tag.
Group mural (optional): Depending on the session, we might collaborate on a massive group piece to learn teamwork.
The grand reveal: We finish with a gallery-style walkthrough where everyone shows off their hard work and takes photos!

Local culture

Hamilton (or Kirikiriroa) has a rapidly growing street art scene that is absolutely buzzing! From the stunning murals in the South End to the hidden gems along the Waikato River trails, the city is becoming a massive outdoor gallery. Our summer camp activities tap into this local energy, encouraging kids to celebrate Hamilton's unique culture—from its lush gardens to its proud sporting history—through their art.

Fun Fact: Did you know Hamilton hosts the 'Boon Street Art Festival'? It’s a local event that has transformed boring brick walls across the CBD into world-class masterpieces, making our city one of the coolest spots in NZ for graffiti fans! 🏆

Pricing

We believe in transparent pricing that offers great value for a premium creative experience. Our summer camp sessions in Hamilton are priced between NZ$45 and NZ$95 per person.
