Is the spray paint safe for school students to use?

Safety is our number one priority in Sheffield. We provide premium FFP3 respiratory masks, disposable gloves, and protective suits for every student. Our workshops are held in well-ventilated outdoor areas or specially designated indoor spaces. Our professional artists are fully DBS checked and trained to supervise groups safely, ensuring a secure environment where students can focus entirely on their creativity and learning without any risks.

Can we choose a specific theme for the graffiti workshop?

Absolutely! We tailer our Sheffield school workshops to fit your specific educational goals. Whether you want to focus on local history, environmental issues, or school values like 'respect' and 'teamwork', our artists can design the session around those themes. It’s a fantastic way to make abstract concepts tangible and visual, giving students a creative voice on topics that matter to your school community.

Where do the workshops take place in Sheffield?

We are flexible! We can bring our mobile setup directly to your school grounds in Sheffield—all we need is a bit of outdoor space and some wall or fence area to set up our temporary boards. Alternatively, we can arrange for the session to take place at an inspiring local street art spot if you'd prefer an educational school trip experience. We provide all the boards, so no permanent marks are left behind!

How long does a typical school workshop last?

A standard school workshop usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This allows enough time for an introduction to street art history, a safety briefing, technique practice, and the creation of the final masterpiece. However, we can adapt the duration to fit into a single double-period or extend it into a full-day creative 'takeover' for multiple classes/year groups depending on your timetable requirements.

Do students need to have any prior art experience?

No prior artistic skill is required at all! Our Sheffield artists are experts at breaking down complex mural techniques into simple, manageable steps. We often find that students who struggle in traditional academic or art settings truly shine in graffiti workshops because the medium is so physical and forgiving. It’s all about building confidence and having a go—there are no mistakes in street art!

What equipment do we need to provide?

Graffitifun provides everything your school needs. This includes high-quality spray cans in a rainbow of colours, caps (nozzles), protective gear, and the surfaces to paint on (usually large cling-film 'walls' or wooden boards). We even bring our own bin bags to ensure we leave your school site exactly as we found it. You just need to provide the enthusiastic students and some old clothes!

The experience

Why choose a graffiti workshop for your Sheffield students? It goes way beyond just painting walls. It’s about building confidence and looking at the world through a different lens. 💪

Boosts engagement: Capture the attention of students who usually find traditional art classes a bit too "quiet."
Team building: Our large-scale murals require communication and cooperation—skills they’ll use for life! 🤝
Confidence through creativity: Seeing a giant piece of art they helped create gives students a massive sense of pride.
Physical activity: Graffiti is a full-body art form; it gets students moving, stretching, and using their motor skills.
Professional inspiration: Our artists are real-world pros who share their journey, showing students that "artist" is a viable career path. 🎤
Zero stress for teachers: We bring everything, manage the mess, and handle the cleanup via our mobile setup.

Step by step

Initial consultation: We chat about your Sheffield school's goals, year group size, and any specific curriculum themes you want to cover.
Design phase: Our artists prepare a lesson plan and sketches based on your chosen theme, ensuring it’s age-appropriate and engaging.
Setup on-site: We arrive early at your school to set up professional spray zones with protective flooring and temporary painting walls.
Introduction & history: We kick off with a high-energy talk about the history of street art, from New York subways to the streets of Sheffield.
Safety first: Every student gets kitted out in protective gear and receives a briefing on how to handle spray cans responsibly.
Skill building: Students learn the 'basics'—lines, dots, fades, and how to control the pressure of the can for different effects.
The main creation: Under expert guidance, the students collaborate to fill in a massive mural or work on individual panels.
Detailing & finishing: We show the kids how to add those professional touches like outlines and highlights to make their work 'pop'.
The grand reveal: A final group photo with the artwork and a debrief on what they’ve achieved together before we pack everything away.

Local culture

Sheffield isn't just the Steel City; it's a canvas for some of the UK's most incredible urban artists. From the iconic 'The Snog' mural by Pete McKee to the sprawling street art found in the Kelham Island and St Vincent’s quarters, Sheffield lives and breathes creativity. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, showing students that art isn't just something found in a dusty gallery—it's part of the fabric of their city. 🎨

Fun Fact: Did you know Sheffield is home to 'Feature Walls', a world-class street art festival that brought artists from across the globe to decorate the city's brickwork? We bring that same international energy right to your school gates! 🏆
