What is the minimum age for the youth graffiti project?

Generally, we recommend our youth workshops for ages 8 and up. At this age, kids have the motor skills to handle a spray can safely and the attention span to follow the artistic techniques we teach. We use smaller cans for younger hands and ensure every participant feels confident. It’s all about building self-esteem and letting them see that their creative input has real-world value!

Is it safe for young people to use spray paint?

Absolutely! Safety is our number one priority. We provide high-quality FFP3 respiratory masks, gloves, and protective overalls for every participant. Our professional artists are fully trained in site safety and group management. Plus, we use low-solvent or water-based paints wherever possible to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved. You're in very safe, expert hands with the Graffitifun team.

Do the participants need any prior art skills?

You don't need a single ounce of experience! Our artists are experts at breaking down complex street art styles into simple, easy-to-follow steps. We start with basic lines and 'tags' before moving on to 3D effects and highlights. Whether they are natural-born artists or have never picked up a pen, every young person leaves with a piece of art they can be proud of.

Where in Sheffield do the workshops take place?

We’re flexible! We can host the workshop at a dedicated street art location in Sheffield, or we can come to your youth centre, sports hall, or outdoor space. We use protective floor coverings and mobile graffiti walls to ensure we leave your venue exactly as we found it. If you need help finding a spot, just let us know and we’ll sort it.

How long does a typical session last?

The typical youth project lasts between 2 and 3 hours. This gives us enough time for a safety briefing, a history of street art, technique practice, and the creation of a final masterpiece. If you have a specific schedule or a full-day 'holiday camp' vibe in mind, we can easily adapt the timing to suit your group’s needs and energy levels.

How does the payment process work?

We believe in 'no stress' booking. You don't have to pay anything upfront! After the workshop is finished and everyone is happy with their incredible new skills, we will send over the invoice for payment. This ensures you are 100% satisfied with the experience before a penny leaves your bank account. We make the admin side as fun as the painting!

What supplies do we need to provide?

We provide everything! This includes premium spray paint in a huge range of colours, professional caps (nozzles) for different effects, respiratory protection, gloves, and high-quality canvases or boards. We even bring the inspiration! Participants just need to wear old clothes and shoes they don't mind getting a tiny bit of 'art' on, even though we provide overalls for extra protection.

The experience

Why choose a Graffitifun workshop for your next youth initiative? It’s more than just painting; it's a powerful tool for social development. Check out why Sheffield youth leaders love our sessions:

Confidence boost: Seeing a massive piece of art come to life builds incredible self-belief in young people. 🚀
Teamwork in action: Our large-scale murals require communication and collaboration to get the perfect finish. ✨
Safe creative outlet: We provide a legal, structured environment to explore an art form that’s often misunderstood.
Professional mentors: Our artists aren't just teachers; they are active street artists who inspire the group with their real-world skills. 🎤
Zero stress for you: We handle all the logistics, safety gear, and cleanup—you just bring the group!
Lasting impact: Participants take home their own canvas or leave behind a stunning mural that beautifies their community. 🏆

Step by step

Intro & inspiration: We start with a high-energy kick-off, looking at the history of street art and how it turned from 'vandalism' into a respected global art form.
Safety first: Our pros demonstrate how to use the gear correctly. Every participant gets fitted with a mask and gloves to keep things safe and clean.
First lines: We head to the practice wall. You'll learn how to control the spray can, manage pressure, and create clean lines without the dreaded 'drips'.
Tagging & lettering: Time to find your 'writer' name! We help you design a unique tag and explain the different styles of graffiti lettering.
Sketching the masterpiece: Before hitting the final wall or canvas, we sketch out the group's vision, ensuring everyone has a dedicated part in the project.
The big fill: This is where the colour comes in. We teach you how to blend shades and create those eye-popping gradients that make street art stand out.
Outlining & shines: We add the 'power-line' and white highlights. These tiny details are what make your artwork look professional and 3D.
The final reveal: We step back, admire the collective work, and snap some epic group photos for the 'gram and your youth centre's walls!

Local culture

Sheffield is a city with soul, and its street art scene is no different. From the massive "The Snog" mural on West Street to the hidden gems tucked away in the industrial heart of Kelham Island, Sheffield speaks through its walls. Our workshops tap into this local spirit, encouraging young people to draw inspiration from the city's rich heritage and its modern, edgy vibe. We love helping Sheffield's youth contribute to the cultural conversation of their hometown.

Fun Sheffield Fact: Did you know that Sheffield is home to one of the UK’s most famous street artists, Phlegm? His intricate, otherworldly characters can be found all over the city, proving that a can of paint and a big imagination can take you anywhere! 🎨
